--- Comment #5 from Jan Buecken jb.faq@gmx.de 2008-05-25 17:07:03 --- Similar problem with Sacrifice and UnrealTournament on gentoo, amd64, Ati Mobility Radeon HD 2600 with ati-drivers (8.493) wine 1.0_rc2 emul-linux-x68-* packages are installed (not all, don't know if this important or if this problem is solved if I install all of this packages...) There was no problem on my 32bit system.
Some other apps / games give a page fault with

If I simply copy the games to my wine-driectory on a ext3 partition, games like gta2 and quake-3 arena starts up. Sacrifice starts up, but has a problem to choose iPixelFormat later (this is what the log said). I believe this is a own bug which depends on the ati-driver.
Where do you have your software? Can anyone confirm this?

Mmh. But why was this working on my old 32bit x86 gentoo? I don't change any parameter in my fstab. Maybe there is a difference how ntfs-3g acts on 32bit and 63 bit systems, but I cannot really believe this...

DON'T DO THIS! Install them in wine and run them from wine. Don't copy them from windows.
Did you do the same for iTunes?

Why not? I have trouble with disk-space (and I had a defect cdrom-drive, hence I installed software on another machine and copied it with the registry entries). And it was working on my old system (I know, some software needs spacial registry entries, and so on, and up to this point, I get every software working with shared files.
Did you do the same for iTunes?
No, Tobi is right, but for you I checked this out: I installed iTunes with wine (no crash, but there were some page faults and a black back, but its running through). Afte that I cd to the iTunes directory and iTunes starts up, with black back (page faults and some other interesting outputs for a own bug, but it doesn't crash totally.
Now I copied it to the ntfs-drive. And, WHOOPS, its starts up (it don't crash, but black back and a error message, that the cdrom-driver is missing, this is a typical "copy" problem for me...) I don't tried to install it with windows and then to start it with wine, yet... But I moved my wine directory so that I get a clean one (this should simulate I had installed it with windows, right?) Then I only get the message that QuickTime was not found.
But I just test this: I copied my games (gta2 and quake3) to another place (home directory) on the ext3 partition (not the wine directory). They start up, too! At this point, I can only say, that its working on ext3, but not on ntfs, independent from which OS I installed the games.
Should I check out anyway if the bug takes effect for me if I install iTunes in windows (vista for me) and try to start it with wine? (but installing Quicktime with wine)
@Dan, Ryan, Lex and Lei, does the bug mentioned by Tobias in comment 9 helps you? It seems to me that you don't do things like me ;-)

It sometimes works by chance, but is not proper and a broken 'install' method. The same thing fails on windows between windows installs.

NTFS driver is incomplete and doesn't support all needed features.

Not necessary.

NTFS driver is incomplete and doesn't support all needed features.
May I ask what needed features do you mean? We are not aware of nor were reported any, and other software sure work fine with the NTFS-3G driver.
The most common Wine problems are documented at http://ntfs-3g.org/support.html#wine
It can be summarized as either not using the 'exec' mount option, or not using at least Linux kernel 2.6.26-rc1 which added support for shared writable mmap what some Windows software need.

You're correct. I was basing that off features that have since been implemented. The fact remains that the filesystem is often misconfigured, either in fstab or because of an outdated kernel. Didn't mean to sound accusatory to NTFS-3G.

--- Comment #22 from Hewus hewus.owns@gmail.com 2008-05-31 03:15:44 --- Hi. I get the same error after installing iTunes in a fresh wineprefix with wine-1.0-rc3. I too have a 64-bit system. However, the wineprefix is located in my home partition, which is xfs. My situation has nothing to do with ntfs. Should this report perhaps be reopened, as it's a separate issue?
I added native odbc32.dll and odbcint.dll as mentioned earlier, and this got iTunes running (albeit with other fixme/err problems, but that's for another bug report).
