--- Comment #2 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net 2013-05-01 15:05:59 CDT --- Hello David,
I can't reproduce the crash.
Prerequisites: clean 32-bit WINEPREFIX and 'winetricks -q dotnet40'
(VC++ 2010 SP1 runtime and MSXML 6.0 are automatically installed)
Additionally to make the app start properly:
'winetricks corefonts' to work around bug 32323 (Arial/Verdana fonts) 'winetricks windowscodecs' to work around bug 32654 (windowscodecs.dll.WICSetEncoderFormat_Proxy)
The application (WPF 4.0 based) starts ok and shows gui - albeit slow due to background scanning of all kinds of files (multimedia/documents) and various console fixme spam. If you don't see the mouse cursor initially once you hover over GUI - wait a bit - it's doing lot of cpu intensive stuff until it becomes reactive.
It wants to connect "sign in with Blackberry ID" so I can't test further.
---
If you still get the crash with _recent_ Wine version please attach console output using following:
$ wineserver -k (shutdown all background services, there are some autostart ones)
Change to app folder:
"WINEPREFIX/drive_c/Program Files/Research In Motion/BlackBerry Link" (replace WINEPREFIX with real location, e.g. ~/.wine)
Start the app:
$ WINEDEBUG=+tid,+seh,+loaddll,+process wine ./BlackBerryLink.exe >>log.txt 2>&1
(avoid +relay for now, it would produce a huge log, I just need info which executable and crash range)
Wait until crash reporter shows up and confirm the crash. Attach the log (compress if too large).

what about this:
--- snip --- 00000108 winewrapper.exe 00000113 0 --- snip ---
Are you using some 3rd party modified Wine? This is not supported here, please use plain Wine as provided/packaged by your distro.

--- Comment #4 from Michael Yoo michael@yoo.id.au --- Hello,
I have produced a debug report with Anastasius Focht's instructions. The problem seems to be with BlackBerry Link interacting with Windows Media Player/Services from what I look at the log file with limited understanding.
I am running wine-1.7.19. sha1sum 43460652ce44c55750d7065668188edc2ed20dc0 123_b046_multilanguage.exe
I will attach the log for further review by the development team. This is on a fresh WINE install and not using a third party modification of WINE.
Best regards, Michael Yoo

--- Comment #7 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello Michael,
--- snip --- 0009:err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution. --- snip ---
Your Wine install is missing essential dependency, you need to fix this. If you don't know what this means ask the Wine packager for your distro (Bugzilla is not meant for end user support).

--- Comment #8 from Michael Yoo michael@yoo.id.au --- Created attachment 48718 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=48718 Debug log after installation of NTLM_auth
I have installed winbind / NTLM_auth, but now there seems to be a new error. Looks to be like a problem with DLL loading but I am not sure.

--- Comment #9 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
works fine for me.
You likely have a broken WINEPREFIX due to missing deps at install time.
You can't just install missing host deps and re-run the application, expecting it to work. You must redo everything with a new prefix.

I did winetricks -q dotnet40 corefonts before hand. Not sure if they were even needed anymore.
The installer starts, but it only opens a small window with black content. And spams a lot fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),1,0x54ae550,0x00000000), stub!
wine-staging seem to go forward with this installer with few issues.
wine 1.7.53 and wine 1.7.52-staging
So what's the status of this bug? It could be hard to find the original file.

--- Comment #12 from Blauer_Hunger blauerhunger@outlook.de --- Created attachment 54244 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=54244 Blackberry Link 1.2.0.52 with wine 1.9.7 and dotnet40 from POL
I tried Blackberry Link with wine 1.9.7 and dotnet40 from PlayOnLinux. It installed almost fine (it showed up a window "Error" but then looked like it continued) and finished install properly (or at least looked so). When I tried to start BlackberryLink, some seconds after the splash screen appeared, the Wine Crash Report showed up. I attach the backtrace. Another try showed that installing BlackBerryLink with wine 1.9.8 without any native libraries doesn't work at all, as the installer doesn't start.

--- Comment #13 from Gijs Vermeulen gijsvrm@gmail.com --- It seems this bug report was recycled after Focht's Comment #9, since people started testing newer versions of the app than what was used in the original report.
The (original) installer currently suffers from some other issues (unimplemented ndis.sys function), but that's a different issue.
Resolving INVALID as a broken wineprefix was used in the original report and Focht wasn't able to reproduce.
Adding a stable download that matches the info from Comment #2. (original version)
