Summary: Warhammer: Chaos Gate crashes during combat Product: Wine Version: 1.2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-ddraw AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: curran.michaelp@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=29874) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=29874) Console log for Warhammer: Chaos Gate crash
Either at the beginning of combat or the start of the AI's turn, the game crashes. I've attached a log of the console for the entire game's run and as I suspect it is a direct draw problem, a log with WINEDEBUG=+ddraw on.

According to the AppDB this used to work pre-1.1.4 http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4218 in which case it sounds like a regression.
Please perform a regression test if you can confirm it works with these earlier reported versions. http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

--- Comment #3 from Michael Curran curran.michaelp@gmail.com 2010-07-29 21:21:12 --- While I am still regression testing, this bug looks to be the Wine manifestation of the "Cultist Laser Pistol Bug" that affects the game in NT-style Windows systems as well. There is some discussion of the problem at: http://www.compatdb.org/forums/topic/24133-warhammer-40k-chaos-gate-on-xp-he... but the only workaround seems to be disabling the attack that is causing the problem.

--- Comment #4 from Michael Curran curran.michaelp@gmail.com 2010-07-29 22:57:56 --- I've hit a wall on regression testing on version wine-0.9.47, I had to force in a series of patches to get it to compile, but the application immediately crashes with an unrelated problem.
Based on what I've read about the "Cultist bug" for windows, it seems like in NT based systems, the game has trouble finding a wav or animation file related to a specific enemy's attack, triggering a CTD when the invoked. The basic workaround is to adjust the game's data files to prevent the affected enemy from attacking.
