From your log:
err:virtual:map_image failed to set 60000020 protection on section .text, noexec filesystem?
Are you running on a noexec filesystem? If so, you need to turn that off.

No i am running a plain ext4 filesytem. there might be some kind of conflict because my wineprefix is installed on a ext3 partition and my wow is installed on a ext4 filesystem.
- Are you able to run other wine apps off that ext4 filesystem? - Have you tried running WINEPREFIX=/media/my-ext4-partition/home/foo/wine-test wine wow.exe ? - Were you ever able to run wow on that setup? - Have you tried tried moving wow on your ext3 partition and running it from there?
That should cover it..

--- Comment #4 from leech@deathgrab.com 2010-11-30 14:25:56 CST --- I have the same issue with a current git build. Running OpenSuSE 11.3 64 with and ext4 filesystem.
The strange thing is if I try to start the launch 10 or so times it will eventually work and update.
I do not have any ext3 filesystems to test with.

Didnt work any better with builtin or native. I can paste dbg-msg from either if it helps to debug.

--- Comment #13 from Joseph Williams joe.xubuntu@googlemail.com 2011-06-01 02:04:31 CDT --- hey guys,
here is a stab in the dark. I had this issue of the launcher crashing yesterday when I put wow in to a clean prefix. now I had that problem with Starcraft II where the launcher would no patch until I installed ie6 out of winetricks.
now with WOW and SC2 depending on the same battle.net system it is not too far a reach to say they are the same launcher just with a different theme / GUI. so I drop my wow install into my SC2 prefix and launched the wow launcher.... hey presto it worked. it looks like the WOW launcher is now depending on ie6 under wine.
can anyone else confirm this????

--- Comment #22 from Thomas Spear Speeddymon@gmail.com 2011-11-20 03:57:35 CST --- The crashes that happen all exhibit similar symptoms, in that it happens after a few seconds of downloading, once the latest launcher is installed. You can get the WoW downloader from https://us.battle.net/account/download/ -- click the Windows link for the Full Game Client (which is around 30MB).
Once downloaded:
run it as I demonstrated in the backtraces above click Install scroll to the bottom of the license agreement and click Accept. It will download some files (should take a couple of minutes at most), then pull up the older version of the launcher, which comes with the installer. The old launcher will update itself, exit, and re-open. The new launcher will take a minute or so to initialize, then start downloading for maybe 5 seconds, then error out or hard crash.
I'm changing the status to new

--- Comment #26 from Thomas Spear Speeddymon@gmail.com 2011-11-27 05:00:28 CST --- That would be fine except that there is a bug already filed where you cannot see the Launcher options screen in wine (I don't have a windows install on this machine to be able to change it there.
Of course before I posted I checked google and found a way to disable it. Pain in the rear to have to do this but it appears the BackgroundDownloader.exe trick works here, as the files are being downloaded via that.
Side note to anyone else that is reading this: make sure to also check "Don't throttle background download.
I decided to cancel the download via BackgroundDownloader to see if Launcher will read the same setting; it does. So after you change the settings via BackgroundDownloader.exe, you can safely kill it and start up the Launcher again to complete the download.

--- Comment #27 from Thomas Spear Speeddymon@gmail.com 2011-11-27 05:07:09 CST --- Oh last note, I did all of this with a clean ~/.wine (no winetricks needed). So to summarize:
(Skip the first part if WoW is already installed)
-Install wine via whatever method and run winecfg so that gecko downloads, but do not change any settings in winecfg. -Download the installer from Battle.net Account Management -Open the installer with wine, follow the prompts to start installing the game -Allow the bundled Launcher to start, download an update for itself, close, relaunch itself as the new version, and then crash. -Go to the wine C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft directory and start BackgroundDownloader.exe with wine
-As quickly as you can (you have a few seconds while it initializes), click View>Preferences, then uncheck Use Peer to Peer, and check Don't throttle background download, then click ok, then click cancel to close the downloader. You may need to ctrl+c the downloader in the console -Start up the Launcher again and let it complete the download.

Please test if this still a problem. Should be fixed since version 1.3.36.
Using yesterday's git, clean ~/.wine, and the instructions from comment #20 the installer doesn't crash. I didn't let the installer finish the entire download (need the bandwidth for other things at the moment) but it doesn't crash after a few seconds once the most recent Launcher is running. I let it run for about 10 minutes total and had no crashes until I closed the Launcher (which is a separate bug).
As far as this bug is concerned, it works for me.
