Bug ID: 53559 Summary: Cult of the Lamb leaks memory due to mfplat unsupported service Product: Wine Version: 7.15 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: mfplat Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: joseskvolpe@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 72923 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=72923 Log output
After the developer opening, the game tries to reproduce another video. You can hear the sound playing, but the video fails to load. The game seems to try to load the video again and finds itself in a failing loop, leaking memory. While trying to reproduce the intro video, the game spams to the log:
fixme:mfplat:media_source_get_service_GetService Unsupported service {dd0ac3d8-40e3-4128-ac48-c0add067b714}.
This issue (memory leak) doesn't occurs on Proton, but the intro video still can't be reproduced.
Procedure: 1 - Open up the game 2 - Wait until the first intro (Massive Monster opening) ends 3 - Watch for the system monitor that RAM is leaking. Kill the application or else it'll freeze your system
Game is paid and can be downloaded from Steam or GOG. Their official page: https://www.cultofthelamb.com/

I think I've seen it before. I think what happens is that some failure makes the game recreate media source over and over again. That can potentially create too many threads, run out of rtworkq user queues limit, or maybe leak memory too.

Same issue with "Greak : Memories of Azur" from GoG.
With Wine-8.3 pure & clean wineprefix = black screen during videos, no subtitles appears. https://ibb.co/yFwKKTt
Add the game as no-steam game and use Proton-7 = Black screen + subtitle and HUD https://ibb.co/2Y73j4F
Add the game as no-steam game and use Proton-Exp = Color screen + subtitle and HUD https://ibb.co/3dddtnV

--- Comment #8 from Rafał Mużyło galtgendo@o2.pl --- Did anyone retest the original issue with something recent (9.0+) ?
It's likely that at least some progress has been made...
