This seems to be a regression in wined3d, but due to my internet connection (Dial-Up) I cannot do the regression testing. (Sorry for this inconvenience. :'( )
Wine 1.1.38 now reports a pagefault on read access when launching the game, attached is the log. Previous versions of wine, e.g. 1.1.35/37, did not have this issue.

--- Comment #4 from Luke gaming4jc2@yahoo.com 2010-02-21 15:39:25 --- Thanks for letting me know, I'm not sure how but the drivers did indeed need reinstalled. I did a full removal and new install of them, now it works fine. Oddly, wine 1.1.35 worked perfectly without them...
