Bug ID: 35115 Summary: Campaign Cartographer does not install - err:msi:set_installer_properties Failed to set the UserSID property Product: Wine Version: 1.7.8 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: msi Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: dj.shaw@btconnect.com Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 46844 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=46844&action=edit Install log
Campaign Cartographer 3 does not install. The install program appears to run OK, but no files are installed to the prefix. The final error output is
err:msi:set_installer_properties Failed to set the UserSID property
I am unable to run a regression test as my setup does not appear capable of compiling Wine prior to 1.6. Last known good version (from AppDb) Wine-1.2.1.

--- Comment #1 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net --- The AppDB has a test report rating it gold for 1.5.29; that version is new enough that it should still compile on current systems.
However, both the maintainer howto and the gold test report say that the original installer on the CD doesn't work, and that you need to download an updated installer from the vendor. So my question is, is this bug report for the original installer that never worked, or the updated one that once did? If the former, it's not a regression.

--- Comment #2 from David Shaw dj.shaw@btconnect.com --- Just to confirm, this is not the original CD installer, but the download from Profantasy.com - both an older one (which has worked for me in the past) and a fresh download made today.
Also, I'm obviously too stupid to notice the Gold 1.5.29 - I was going by the comments below that. However, all attempts on my system (Arch) to compile 1.6 or earlier fail with the error
Makefile:165: recipe for target 'parser.tab.o' failed

You probably need c00cc015f827d255b6e239b63e45acff01e19525 and efef36c05abfffbe36d82e6e3f78133d8d88c53d (possibly a few more).

Sorry to be so thick, Austin, but despite my best Google-fu, I can't work out how to use them. Any pointers very much appreciated.
Looking more closely at the output shows that make is working on tools/wrc when the error occurs.

--- Comment #5 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- Those are sha1sums of git commits. The wiki has some info for building wine/git:

if you need further hel, please use IRC or the forums though, not bugzilla.

--- Comment #6 from Adam Luchjenbroers adam.luchjenbroers@gmail.com --- I'm also encountering the same issue, tested under Ubuntu 14.04 with both Wine 1.6.2 and 1.7.19.
I'm currently trying to get a 1.5.29 built from Git to test against that version, but that's proving to be slow going due to 64bit Ubuntu not having 32-bit development libraries

--- Comment #7 from Peter L. Berghold salty.cowdawg@gmail.com --- I'll just add I ran into this last night with CC3 as well using Wine (whatever version came with the distro) under Linux Mint 15 (64 bit).

--- Comment #8 from David Shaw dj.shaw@btconnect.com --- After quite a bit of effort on trying to work out the regression, I am starting to suspect that this is a Linux issue - or possibly a CC3 issue - rather than a Wine one. Regardless of which version of Wine I compile, I get the same msi error when I try to install CC3 - I've gone all the way back to Wine-1.3.20 trying to find a 'last-known-good' version with no success. Given that CC3 is supposed to install under Wine-1.5.29, I wonder whether it's worth going back any further or whether I should be trying another tack.

--- Comment #9 from hanska2@luukku.com --- Would it be possible to test with some live distro?

--- Comment #10 from David Shaw dj.shaw@btconnect.com --- So far, I've tried with Arch, Bodhi and Slackware (the last two in VBox VMs) - although I've only gone back to 1.3.20 with Slackware. I didn't bother going much further back than 1.5.29 with either Arch or Bodhi.
I'm happy to try some more distros, if you think it would be worth it.

--- Comment #11 from Adam Luchjenbroers adam.luchjenbroers@gmail.com --- Created attachment 49926 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=49926 MSI Debug log showing msi_set_property / msi_get_property failure
I decided to try again with WINEDEBUG=+msi,+advapi32 (I took a look in LXR and saw a few calls into Advapi32 and figured that might be relevant).
Looking over the logs, it looks like something has broken msi_set_property / msi_get_property - None of the properties that are being set appear to be sticking at all.

--- Comment #12 from Mark Tarrabain markt@nerdflat.com --- This issue is still occurring, at least with 64-bit Slackware 14.2, with wine 1.9.23, using the latest installer downloaded directly from Profantasy's updates and downloads page.
