wine: Call from 0x760efa to unimplemented function d3dx9_27.dll.D3DXGetImageInfoFromFileInMemory, aborting
Try using native d3dx9_27.dll

--- Comment #2 from Ben Foote ben.foote@gmail.com 2008-10-28 17:03:45 --- Using the native version of the dll seems to fix the problem...but, and I don't mean to be rude, doesn't that defeat the purpose of wine? Or has wine not implemented 'all' of direct x9?
I appreciate the help in fixing though. I suppose I can just deal with using the native dll until this is implemented.

--- Comment #3 from H. Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com 2008-10-28 17:59:15 --- Wine implements most of Direct3D 9, but d3dx9_27.dll is an utility dll on top of d3d9 that's mostly unimplemented in Wine at the moment. Typically applications should install this dll as part of their installation, but some applications don't, and sometimes the installer doesn't work. IIRC newer versions of the DirectX runtime installer need some things from fusion.dll that we don't implement yet.

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-05-03 21:29:45 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.20 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #5 from Ben Foote ben.foote@gmail.com 2009-05-04 19:59:35 --- I'm glad you emailed me. I just did a clean install of Jaunty 9.04 on my desktop, and reinstalled Oblivion. When I loaded the Oblivion launcher, dxdllreg.exe crashed, stating "dxdllreg.ex has encountered a serious problem and needs to close" But otherwise the game runs great. The dxdllreg crash affected nothing.
I only played the game for a few minutes, but performance even seemed better than before using the native dll. Congratulations to the wine team!
