Bug #: 33877 Summary: AutoRun.exe for SimCity 4 Deluxe segfaults when trying to install program Product: Wine Version: 1.5.29 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: gdi32 AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: belfrancis2001@yahoo.ca Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 44943 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=44943 The backtrace saved from the AutoRun.exe's segfault
Downloaded SimCity 4 Deluxe from Gamer's Gate and then wine-executed the AutoRun.exe to start installation. Clicked the Install and the install program segfaults.
I am using Fedora 18 linux distribution on a Lenovo Laptop T60p running kernel version 3.9.6-200. The graphics card is an ATI Mobility FireGL V5250 (graphics chip set M66 or M56GL) and using the open source video drivers.
It is believed that a deficiency in the video subsystem (ie: possibly r300_dri.so or WINE's use of the resource) might be causing problems since a preliminary scan of the backtrace seem to indicate possible termination in the video portion of the code.
I decided to file this backtrace before I try using the proprietary AMD/ATI Catalyst video drivers to see if they resolve the problem. In which case, if they do then it might confirm that there is a deficiency in the open source video driver.

--- Comment #3 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
I can't reproduce this, the 2-CD installer works fine (via autorun). Resolving 'fixed'.
Next time:
* provide full terminal output via attachment (backtrace alone is not enough) * describe exactly when then crash happens (before/after cd-key input, click button x, ...)
Resetting component since you didn't provide strong evidence for your driver hypothesis (terminal output, trace logs) .
I've debugged the installer a bit checking with your backtrace but unfortunately it lacks app call frames. The only evidence this could be graphics/DirectX related is the presence of 'dsetup' (installer builtin DX setup helper), 'dxgi', 'wined3d',... dlls which happen to be mapped/unmapped during DirectX installation check.
