Bug #: 29524 Summary: Firefox 9.0.1 crashes immediately Product: Wine Version: 1.3.28 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: wu.m@arcor.de Classification: Unclassified
The windows program that I run under Wine creates HTML files locally and invokes Firefox (to be exact, Firefox for Windows, installed under Wine) to display them. This used to work well with Firefox 8.0. When Firefox upgrades itself to 9.0.1 (which it does for me since January 2012), I get a message
The program firefox.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close...
and the Firefox window is not opened. The terminal shows
wine: Unhandled illegal instruction at address 0x1a4000b (thread 0025), starting debugger...
I can then restore Firefox from a backup, and all is well for awhile.
I encountered the problem with Wine 1.2; I am now running Wine 1.3 and the problem still exists.

--- Comment #1 from Jacek Caban jacek@codeweavers.com 2012-01-03 08:49:36 CST --- Works fine here. Does it crash when you manually run firefox.exe? Perhaps it's specific to the page you try to view?

--- Comment #3 from wum46 wu.m@arcor.de 2012-01-03 08:58:50 CST --- The same happens also when I call Firefox under Wine from the command line, without giving a file to view - that is how I created the attachment I just posted.
Since there is a workaround (namely forbidding Firefox to do automatic upgrades), the importance may possibly be reduced.

--- Comment #7 from wum46 wu.m@arcor.de 2012-01-03 10:47:00 CST --- I went to http://www.winehq.org/download/ubuntu yesterday and installed what that page said was "the most recent Wine 1.3 beta". What must I do to install a more recent version for Ubuntu?

--- Comment #8 from Jacek Caban jacek@codeweavers.com 2012-01-03 10:50:06 CST --- I have no idea about Ubuntu, sorry. I'm marking this bug fixed since it works for me. Feel free to reopen if you can reproduce the crash using recent Wine version.
