--- Comment #2 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2010-07-07 12:59:16 --- What video card and drivers? Have you followed Steam's how-to on AppDB? Does it happen with any other "steamed" game?

--- Comment #3 from Adam Smith rabidweezle@gmail.com 2010-07-07 18:11:57 --- It doesn't happen in the source games I have tested or arx fatalis. GPU=nVidia 8200M G with nVidia's 194.36.24 driver

--- Comment #4 from Adam Smith rabidweezle@gmail.com 2010-07-07 18:37:56 --- Figured out that if the game doesn't detect the ingame steam menu to be enabled, it won't start, BUT if it is enabled it crashes at start.

--- Comment #5 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2010-07-08 10:47:10 --- Then your Wine isn't compiled with correct gcc version required to support steam in-game.

--- Comment #9 from Adam Smith rabidweezle@gmail.com 2010-07-08 13:27:05 --- According to the steam appdb page:
Steam Community In-Game does not work - disable or it will cause all games to crash.
This bug states if you don't enable this it won't start. If you do enable it, it will crash just after starting. No where on the steam appdb page does it mention what special version of gcc to use. Where is this info coming from? According to the appdb page for steam I did a correct install. I have many steam games, and This is the only one that doesn't launch.

--- Comment #10 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2010-07-08 18:06:53 --- (In reply to comment #7) Apparently so. File bug with Ubuntu. New gcc has specific changes required to support Steam's in-game community.

--- Comment #13 from Javier Kohen jkohen@users.sourceforge.net 2010-08-01 12:32:45 --- I just installed this game and I'm seeing the same problems in this thread, even the same wine output in the attachment. I've followed the instructions in all the related bugs I could find to no avail. I've tried finding some discussion of this bug on Google with no luck. I'd appreciate it if anybody who's gotten this to work can contact me here or privately.
I've compiled Wine 1.3 with the just released gcc 4.5.1 and g++ 4.5.1 from Debian experimental, and I still have this problem. I'm using Linux kernel 2.6.34-1-amd64 from Debian experimental. The kernel is compiled with gcc 4.4.4. Does that matter?
I understand this fragment of wine's config.log from this build is relevant, and also shows the expected result: configure:11967: checking for ms_hook_prologue attribute configure:11983: gcc-4.5 -m32 -c -g -O2 -Werror conftest.c >&5 configure:11983: $? = 0 configure:11990: result: yes
I've both tried enabling and disabling the in-game community, though from tries with a few different games that do run, I couldn't get it to do anything, so I'm not sure it's working. I tried with the default keybinding of Shift-Tab, and also with a custom one of Ctrl-Shift-X (I've never seen it working though, so I don't know what to expect). I've seen lots of mentions to this XFire, but I don't see any files with that name in my computer. Do I need to install it separately for Deus Ex to work? Again, I couldn't find any information to this end in the discussions I found.
Yesterday I also tried gcc-4.5.0-10 (snapshot from July) to no avail. I can't upgrade to kernel 2.6.35-rc6, yet, because it still doesn't have a kbuild so I wouldn't be able to compile the nVidia driver. Just to confirm, I'm not seeing the seh:raise_exception problem, and all other Steam games I have that are expected to work with Wine work for me as well.

This logs from the GameOverlayRenderer presumably show what's going on, however I must admit I don't know if they actually give any useful information.

--- Comment #15 from ax 34noff otaku@rambler.ru 2013-08-16 10:11:19 CDT --- This bug is "closed duplicate" of #17497 which is "closed fixed" but Deus Ex Invisible War still has a "Problem Starting up Steam" Linux Mint 15 x86-32, Wine 1.6. I will also try Wine 1.7 when it will appear in PPA

--- Comment #16 from ax 34noff otaku@rambler.ru 2013-08-16 12:09:16 CDT --- The same problem in Wine 1.7.0 (build from PlayOnLinux) on clear prefix. Did PlayOnLinux use wrong compiler too? Or maybe bug must be reopened?
