Yes, it's a bug. It appears when the game's movies ("movie" folder) are
installed.
Is it a duplicate of any known bug? Can't find any here...

May be because wine's directmusic implementation is lacking.

I would normally recommend winetricks directmusic, but apparently it's broken
on wine/win7. If you can get those dlls from win7, try that.

Also native quartz may help.

I can confirm this error on wine 1.5.22 the following appears in the terminal
multiple times:

Can you test newer wine 1.8 or 1.9 series? Does winetricks -q quartz help?

Actually it might need winetricks -q directmusic quartz.

I got quite interesting results.

Fresh wineprefix. Tried the demo from comment 3.

Without overrides launcher is useless that's corrected with winetricks -q ie8.

Then it showed some menu and you are able to pick text over voice or something.

I did winetricks -q quartz since the console is spammed with quartz messages.
It seems to go a bit further and crashes at quartz. I was about to give up but
I still did winetricks -q directmusic and now it gave some popup message
related to voices and went even further.

I was able to see some megaman heroes drawn at the screen and the a crash.

wine 2.6-git and staging 2.6. seems to crash same point.

I tested the full game with wine-5.10. No crash. Movie is playing. Can an
administrator close this bug as FIXED.

Hello folks,

confirming. The "freeze" was gone around Wine 5.0 but no movie is shown until
main menu (audio can be heard). The intro movie started working with Wine 5.5

The launcher is ActiveMARK based DRM which needs some native IE8 overrides to
work.
