Summary: [Regression] Mass Effect: unimplemented function msvcp80.dll.?begin@?$basic_string@_WU?$char_traits@_W@ std@@V?$allocator@_W@2@@std@@QAE?AV?$_String_iterator@ _WU?$char_traits@_W@std@@V?$allocator@_W@2@@2@XZ, aborting Product: Wine Version: 1.3.27 Platform: All OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: msvcp AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: debian@carbon-project.org
Created an attachment (id=36229) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=36229) Wine's output to the terminal (no special debugging channels), Wine 1.3.27
I just wanted to play Mass Effect again, but since at least 1.3.27 the game crashes after the videos of the studio/publisher logos with:
wine: Call from 0x7ee0b649 to unimplemented function msvcp80.dll.?begin@?$basic_string@_WU?$char_traits@_W@std@@V?$allocator@_W@2@@std@@QAE?AV?$_String_iterator@_WU?$char_traits@_W@std@@V?$allocator@_W@2@@2@XZ, aborting
This is certainly a regression, even though I didn't have time to to a bisecting run yet, as I have played ME on this system already. I'm not sure which version I used, but I'd guess it was 1.3.25. As there are reports of playing ME with 1.3.26 in the AppDB I'd guess, that the regression was introduced between 1.3.26 and 1.3.27.

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2011-09-06 04:58:56 CDT --- It's not a regression, just a previously hidden bug :).

--- Comment #2 from Cùran debian@carbon-project.org 2011-09-06 10:36:42 CDT --- Oh, great. Because regression testing would have been a little bit problematic atm, as the latest GCC version started segfaulting on me and it would have taken some more time to get the build environment back up again.

maybe a dup of bug 25364 or bug 27921 and maybe related to bug 28199
I searched for error but BZ told me "no bugs found". Bug 27921 seems to be the same though, with the difference, that ME expects the symbol in msvcp80.dll and Endnote X5 in msvcp90.dll. Maybe BZ didn't turn that one up because I had "msvcp80.dll" in my search term, might have forgotten to try it without.
Bug 25364 mentions the symbol in msvcp80.dll in the free text. No idea, why that bug didn't turn up in my search.
If you feel, this bug should be marked as a duplicate of one of those bugs, then go ahead and mark them. As longs as the symbol gets added, I don't care which bug was the cause. ;) If you need me to run some test to verify your suspicion, just let me know.

Oh, great. Because regression testing would have been a little bit problematic atm, as the latest GCC version started segfaulting on me and it would have taken some more time to get the build environment back up again.
Note you may install binary release package to speed up initial bisecting phase (i.e. finding the first known good revision).

--- Comment #8 from Cùran debian@carbon-project.org 2011-09-08 03:12:15 CDT --- (In reply to comment #7) No, I'm the semi-official builder of the Debian binary packages (at least those, that winehq.org refers to on its download pages). Apart from that, Mr. English said in comment #1, that this is not a regression but a previously hidden bug. Thus I'm not sure whether such a test would yield anything useful.

The 'regression' is that wine's dll was being used over native (though this is fixed in git).
No need for a regression test, and thanks for your work.
