Bug ID: 39345 Summary: Ubisoft Uplay crash when Win version is set to Vista and > (libcef problem) Product: Wine Version: 1.7.51 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: berillions@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 52436 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=52436 UPlay Crash
Hi,
Since few Uplay's version, the application crash if i set Winecfg to WinVista or Superior. But fortunatly, there isn't problem when it's to WinXP.
But why i create this bug report ? Because on the Wine-Staging bugzilla (https://bugs.wine-staging.com/show_bug.cgi?id=197), a Wine's user said me that the Cloud Save works with WinVista and actually, it's not possible to try and confirm his solution.
A .dmp file is created when the application crash. See the attachment to see the file.

--- Comment #1 from Berillions berillions@gmail.com --- Created attachment 52486 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=52486 WINEDEBUG=+relay,+tid,+seh log file
I launch Uplay with Win7 set in winecfg and WINEDEBUG=+relay,+tid,+seh
I attached the complete log. I found these line in the log but i don't know if this "stub function" is the real cause for the crash :
[...] 0009:Call ws2_32.WSAEnumNameSpaceProvidersW(0031a2c8,0032e01c) ret=00deefa8 0009:fixme:winsock:WSAEnumNameSpaceProvidersW (0x31a2c8 0x32e01c) Stub! 0009:Ret ws2_32.WSAEnumNameSpaceProvidersW() retval=00000000 ret=00deefa8 [...]

--- Comment #2 from Berillions berillions@gmail.com --- Unfortunatly, the "WSAEnumNameSpaceProvidersW" stub is not the main cause for the crash as i suspected. I have this stub too in the +relay,+tid,+seh log when winecfg is set to WinXP.
Anastasius Fotch, if you read this bug report, how you make to analyze a log file (+relay,+tid,+seh) to find correctly where come from the issue ?
Thanks, Max

--- Comment #4 from Berillions berillions@gmail.com --- No news about this bug ? No need to have an Uplay accout. Just download the application, install and launch it.

--- Comment #6 from legluondunet@free.fr legluondunet@free.fr --- bug still present in wine 1.9.23. Installed fonts with winetricks is useless. Uplay.exe does not launch on Windows XP, but Ubisoftgamelauncher.exe does.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39345
--- Comment #7 from legluondunet@free.fr legluondunet@free.fr --- comment addon: Uplay installer does not install anymore with Windows version < Windows 7. Once installed, Uplay crashes with Wine whatever the wine Windows version. Ubisoftgamelauncher.exe does not crash only when wine Windows version set to XP. Then you can use the Uplay interface normally, without to install secondary dll or use winetricks.
Tested: wine 1.9.23 staging and Uplay 15th december 2016 version.

Hello everyone,
I did the installation set to XP-mode and tried launching it with Windows Vista or Windows 7 settings. It won't start (console output is attached) and I would like to confirm this bug.

Ubisoft launcher only works with the Wine staging versions and choosing Windows Vista.
Last version of Wine checked: Wine 2.6

--- Comment #12 from Nicky nheart@gmail.com --- I also experience a libcef crash. I can work around it by navicating to the uplay installation directory and using an older libcef version:
cd .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files\ (x86)/Ubisoft/Ubisoft\ Game\ Launcher cp libcef.dll.old libcef.dll
if I do that I can launch ubisoft game launcher (even though it can't connect to any server and I can't activate my games, so still useless). I have to do that every time it starts cause it updates. If I don't do that I get the following message:
The procedure entry point cef_get_web_plugin_info_byname could not be located in the dynamic link library libcef.dll

--- Comment #13 from winehq@gnutp.com winehq@gnutp.com --- Using Debian 4.9.30, Wine 2.14 staging and win7 as host, trying to start uplay resulted in:
err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"winebus.sys": libudev.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory err:winedevice:async_create_driver failed to create driver L"WineBus": c0000142 err:module:import_dll Library DWrite.dll (which is needed by L"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\libcef.dll") not found err:module:import_dll Library libcef.dll (which is needed by L"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\upc.exe") not found err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\upc.exe" failed, status c0000135
Adding Dwrite.dll to wines library tab (no clue what i am doing tbh ;)) kinda fixed the problem. The uplay UI is all kinds of broken and to log in i had to move the GUI to my first monitor (position->left in "Application Data/Ubisoft Game Launcher/settings.yml") for it to work.
Only tested with Assassines Creed II which works now. Hope this helps someone

Update from the last comment. I was using a Ubisoft version that came with Assassin's creed Black flag installation on Steam. After downloading ubisoft separately I'm getting consistent behavior with what other people report here.
