Bug ID: 51087 Summary: I get a return code of 173 when attempting to start programs even with reboot/shutdown Product: Wine Version: 6.7 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: rpc Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: JohnathonKM@Gmail.com Distribution: ---
Hello All,
I've tried making a new Wine Prefix, this application does work intermittently, I've never found out why that is, but I am wanting to find some advice on this issue since this is a first.
Attached is my Wine log from when I run the program to its termination, then my shell reports a return code of 173, like I mentioned in the brief description I've restarted, shutdown and created a new wine prefix and still get the same return code.
This game does work fine in Proton, but like I said intermittently, once it crashes it seemingly refuses to re-open under Wine or Proton. I am submitting this bug upstream here since I think this is more a wine fix than a Proton fix as it looks like it ties into RPC which I think falls a bit out of scope for Valve, if you disagree let me know and I'll take the issue there.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on here?

--- Comment #2 from Gijs Vermeulen gijsvrm@gmail.com --- What game are you trying to run exactly?
Your log doesn't contain any output past the initial prefix creation logs (which are normal).

--- Comment #3 from Johnathon JohnathonKM@Gmail.com --- CoD Black Op 1.
Curious you say that it's normal that I get no output after the prefix is created, usually when I run things through Wine I get a lot of output when actions occur, if I launch a program that's known to work I get a substantial amount of output until the program closes.
I know that reports say the game doesn't work in Wine, however I have had success in the past, and I am more curious about what causes this error since this only seems to be the thing stopping it working when typically it works fine.

No I meant the messages you get right now are normal, not getting any output at all after prefix creation is strange indeed.
Could you share some details about your setup? (e.g. distro, kernel version, which graphics driver + version, etc.)

You can use following commands (adapt for your distro) to gather the information:
$ cat /etc/fedora-release
$ winetricks list-installed
$ sudo lshw -short | egrep -v '(volume|disk|bus)'
$ inxi -Gxz
