Summary: Diagnet generates OLE error 80004002 Product: Wine Version: 1.1.33 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: shapiro.ezra@gmail.com CC: shapiro.ezra@gmail.com
Diagnet was previously working in Ubuntu 9.04 (about a month ago). Currently, on the same computer on which it was working, it is no longer working, and also on a new installation of 9.10 it is not working. When launching the program, it shows an error box that says, "OLE error 80004002." After pressing OK, the program opens a box from which you can exit, but you cannot open the files associated with the program. Diagnet is used for medical purposes and there is no other program of its kind that I know of.

The wine version is indicated above - 1.1.33
Just now I spoke with the makers of the program. They told me it is constantly be developed and that it's logical that an older version of the program (from 2006) works with Wine, where the 2007+ versions currently won't.

It may or may not be a regression. I do not know which version of the program was used on the computer a few weeks ago. How do I generate a plain console output?
I'm very impressed with the response rate here - thank you.

It works :)
Now there's one last problem - the encoding of the files is Hebrew, and they're coming up as gibberish. This is the log:

Thanks for all the responses. I changes Ubuntu's locale to Hebrew (if you meant to change Wine's, I don't know how.) The results are worse. None of the menus of the program are readable. Changing back to English. Here is the log:
Any more ideas?

Do you have Hebrew fonts installed? If yes, you need to setup aliases for missing fonts, and perhaps have ms core fonts installed. There are bugs reported for incomlete BiDi support in Wine.

OK, we're getting closer - I went to System .... Language Support and changed everything to Hebrew, rebooted. I don't know if this is legit, but since mscore fonts were already installed on Ubuntu, I copied from a Vista machine on the network Arial, David, Times, and Tahoma into the Wine fonts folder - It worked completely!!
Here's the thing - I don't want the entire computer in Hebrew. My client speaks Hebrew, but he's a native English speaker. Is there any way to accomplish this?

To change the locale it's enough to set the LANG environment variable appropriately: LANG=he_IL.UTF-8 wine program.exe

The program runs from the CD drive, so I had to type LANG=he_IL.UTF-8 wine /media/cdrom0/diagnet.exe - and it worked :) Thank you! But now, how do I make it work permanently? Each time I launch it from the GUI afterwards, it still used the English locale.

Edit your shortcut and add the 'LANG=...' variable info before the wine command.

--- Comment #19 from Ezra Shapiro shapiro.ezra@gmail.com 2009-11-24 13:33:13 --- The solutions in the posts worked out perfectly. Wine needed a few more components and fonts in order to handle this. It would be a great project if Wine would start to come in "flavors" at a "Winery" of language-oriented Wine packages.
Thanks.

Thank you all - I was pretty sure this was closed. The computer has been out of my hands since I posted that everything was working. The client has complained once that some older disks weren't opening, so I appreciate this latest post about which wine version to use and I'll be happy to pass the information along. As far as I'm concerned this issue has been solved. Thanks to everyone who helped.
