Summary: winecfg: adjusted drive mapping lost Product: Wine Version: 1.1.2 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: Markus.Elfring@web.de
I have tried to assign a different path to the drive letters "E:" and "Z:". I committed the desired changes with the button "OK" from the configuration dialogue. The previous default values were displayed when I returned to the corresponding tab after the restart for the application "winecfg". How should it be achieved to keep adjusted settings for the drive mapping permanently?

I wonder why I could not permanently add a mapping for the drive "E:" by the Winecfg GUI. Can any open issues be seen from the file system view?

--- Comment #2 from Markus Elfring Markus.Elfring@web.de 2008-08-03 11:28:46 --- I can also preset additional links on the command line. elfring@Sonne:~/.wine/dosdevices> rm d: e: ; ln -s /windows/d d: && ln -s /windows/E e:
The "E:" is deleted and my game DVD is assigned to "D:" again after the application "winecfg" was started.

--- Comment #3 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-02-02 16:36:00 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.14 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #4 from Markus Elfring Markus.Elfring@web.de 2009-02-04 14:41:45 --- Partly, yes. - Now the configuration software (version 1.1.14-1.1) insists to keep the setting "d: -> /media/CIVILIZATION4-10" while my adjustment "e: -> /windows/E" is persistent this time.
Is there anything special going on by the mapping from devices like "d:: -> /dev/sr1" to my desired directory assignment?

--- Comment #6 from Markus Elfring Markus.Elfring@web.de 2009-08-14 03:54:46 --- Yes. - The configuration software (version 1.1.27-3.1) reassigns the drives "D" and "E" automatically.

--- Comment #10 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 2 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.16 or newer) wine?

Now I have observed that the configuration software from wine 1.7.16-334.1 does not reset a drive letter in an unexpected way on my system "openSUSE 13.1 / Tumbleweed". It seems that it tries to remap my DVD drives to different "free" letters.

It's not clear to me if this is fixed or not.

I would interpret the seen drive remapping as an behaviour which I would expect in my run time environment. This can be categorised as fixed if it will be also correctly handled in other environments.
