Summary: An interactive guitar course won't work Product: Wine Version: 1.2.2 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: tonymobily@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=35350) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35350) The error I get when I play a video
I am trying to run an Italian guitar course. This is a rather unknown piece of software, and I am likely to be the only person on the planet trying to run it under wine.
So, I am crossing my fingers where: 1) This is something that can be fixed easily in a generic way 2) Other users have the same problem although using different pieces of software.
The problem is only evident when I try to play a video in this course (they show you how to play things).
Please note that this is likely to be pretty poorly written software... but you never know.
Is there *anything* I can do to make this work? Even copy things over from a Windows installation?
Bye!
Merc.

Does "winetricks directx9" help? (to get native quartz)?

Well, still fails to load quartz.dll...
Something must went wrong with winetricks? Could you check the output of:
ls -al ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/quartz.dll
and paste it here?

that looks like the fake dll that wine itsself creates. The native quartz.dll should be at least >1MB size:
-rw-r--r-- 1 louis louis 1962496 2003-05-30 09:00 /home/louis/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/quartz.dll
Maybe it's a good idea to start on a new fresh ~/.wine, and do again 'winetricks quartz' , then reinstall the app, and report back error messages

OK done! I deleted .wine and ran:
winetricks quartz winetricks directx9 winetricks ie7
The output is now VERY different -- I wonder if it's promising!
This only comes out when I try and run a video...

yes, you might try "winetricks wmp10"
If that doesn't help either, please set all dlls back to buitin (in winecfg->Library tab) except quartz and devenum, and then attach output from console here

Sone, log attched... Do you think I will actually manage to get out of it?
Not sure, i see the same crash over again, even with native quartz. Maybe a debuglog is more useful then.
Could you run the program by:
WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid wine player.exe &>/tmp/log.txt
then bzip2 the file /tmp/log and attach it to this bug.
Would you like me to send somebody the program...?
I guess it's not freeware right? so likely not allowed

OK done. My goodness, the debug is IMMENSE!
Would you like me to send somebody the program...?
I guess it's not freeware right? so likely not allowed
It's not freeware, but:
1) I can send you the program with just the first lesson. The point of the course is the lessons -- the program to see them is worthless
2) It's for research/bug fixing issues. Since I can't use it right now, I would temporarily lend you the license to use it.
3) This is something that is actually _beneficial_ for the program... so...
OK uploading the zipped log!
Bye,
Merc.
