Click on any of the links at the bottom of the client and:

err:exec:dde_connect Argify buffer not large enough, truncated

err:winebrowser:wmain Usage: winebrowser URL

Nothing else of relevance in console.

An +exec trace shows a very long URL (259 characters). It contains an authkey
and I'm not sure if it would reveal any personal information so I'm not
attaching it.

The attached hack fixes the problem (but I have no idea what it might break).

This app has much bigger problems now. Blocked by another bug (not yet open).

It is also now necessary to log in to download the app.

Not sure if Bwin client is still affected as the URLs in the application are
shorter, and logging in isn't currently possible (bug).

The code hasn't changed in wine-1.6-rc5-3-gae1709c, however.

That's a lie. I'm a liar.

Tried "wine start 'http://blahblahblah x700'" and traced and all appears as it
should.

There are a lot of edits on dde_connect so I cannot easily work out which
commit fixes this.
