Summary: Starlancer crashes with force feedback enabled Product: Wine Version: CVS/GIT Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-dinput AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: jcarthew@mbarron.net
I enabled force feedback in StarLancer and launched the game with wine Lancer.exe. When the game loads/runs it's fine until you get into a mission. The 3d scene loads fine and the audio plays but as soon as you begin to launch which normally causes a force feedback rumble effect the game crashes out to the command line. If you disable force feedback with the same joystick and rerun the game you can get into the mission fine and play it normally. The joystick is a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 and the force feedback drivers are enabled in the kernel as per the instructions on force feedback in wine.

--- Comment #2 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-06-19 23:38:55 --- same problem with the demo? http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/1542/StarLancer+Demo

--- Comment #3 from james carthew jcarthew@mbarron.net 2008-06-20 05:09:05 --- Yes The same bug occurs in the demo I have just tested it on my machine. There was some commandline output as starlancer was loading up I just noticed: fixme:dinput:LinuxInputEffectImpl_Download Could not upload effect. Assuming a disconnected device. the game loads fine and gets into the 3d space mode and immediately crashes when the ship would launch and play a forcefeedback effect.

--- Comment #4 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2008-07-08 00:22:43 --- Please try with current GIT version? Unfortunately I could not reproduce your crash.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13868
--- Comment #5 from james carthew jcarthew@mbarron.net 2008-07-08 09:31:41 --- tested it with the latest git. Do you have a microsoft sidewinder force feedback 2? That's what I'm testing with.

--- Comment #6 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2008-07-08 23:09:57 --- So do you still have the crash?

--- Comment #8 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-01-10 20:19:29 --- Is this still an issue? Do you have to have a joystick to reproduce it?

--- Comment #9 from james carthew jcarthew@mbarron.net 2009-01-16 03:06:29 --- Yes this is still an issue and yes you will need a joystick with force feedback to test it. Unless you can trick the game into enabling force feedback. I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Forcefeedback 2 joystick I am using to test this. I also have several other non forcefeedback joystick devices. Only the sidewinder is detected by wine as having forcefeedback.

--- Comment #10 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-01-20 02:39:12 --- Removing deprecated CVS/GIT version tag. Please retest in current git. If the bug is still present in today's wine, but was not present in some earlier version of wine, please update version field to earliest known version of wine that had the bug. Thanks!

--- Comment #14 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2012-03-09 21:52:47 CST --- Friendly reminder of 2 years without posts. Is this still a problem in wine 1.4? This bug requires specific hardware and if no one can provide new information it will be resolved as abandoned unfortunately.
