Bug ID: 37693 Summary: No color printing within applications Product: Wine Version: 1.7.32 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: powersurge69@hotmail.com Distribution: ---
I recently loaded Linux Mint 17 on my mother's computer and one of the programs that she likes to use is CreataCard 3. I loaded this program on her machine using PlayOnLinux and the latest version of Wine and the program almost runs perfectly. The only issue that it's having is that the cards are printing in grayscale on her color HP PSC1410 printer. The same thing happened when I installed Hallmark Card Studio on her machine. Her printer prints full color images just fine using other Linux programs. I tested it with another printer and got the same result. I even tried testing it with an older version of Linux Mint 13 and it still printed in grayscale so this leads me to believe that it's a Wine issue. I think this is the same issue that was reported in bug# 8428 that was abandoned.

--- Comment #1 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net --- PlayOnLinux is not supported here; please retest in plain Wine (1.7.36 or later).
Does printing to CUPS-PDF instead of a physical printer have the same problem?
Neither of the apps you mention seem to have a free download. Is there another app that does that can be used to reproduce the problem?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37693
--- Comment #2 from Chris powersurge69@hotmail.com --- Linux Mint 17 has plain Wine version 1.7.34 in it's repository and Creatacard will not start. I tried pasting the following command in terminal:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/chris/.wine" wine C:\windows\command\start.exe /Unix /home/chris/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/Public/Start\ Menu/Programs/CreataCard\ Plus\ 3/CreataCard\ Plus.lnk
and I get this error:
fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000100 fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00004100 err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7bcd2f40 "loader.c: loader_section" wait timed out in thread 004a, blocked by 0049, retrying (60 sec)
However I am able to get it to work through PlayOnLinux. Plain Wine will start Creatacard with Linux Mint 13, so it must have something to do with Linux Mint 17. Hallmark Card Studio works fine with plain Wine in Linux Mint 17.
Both apps do not show CUPS-PDF as an available printer. They only show the local HP PSC1410 printer that is attached.
I did find an app that has a free download here:
http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Help-Center/General-Help/Avery-Design--Prin...
Unfortunately, I couldn't get this app to see my local printer. However, it does show CUPS-PDF as an available printer and it created a full color PDF. Would it be possible/legal for me to email a link to an ISO of Creatacard just for testing purposes?

--- Comment #3 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net --- Apps running in Wine should see all printers installed in CUPS, including CUPS-PDF. The Avery software recognized both my physical printer and CUPS-PDF without any problem. It sounds to me like there's something wrong with your CUPS setup that you need to straighten out.
No, it would not be legal to send me an iso. It would also be pointless, as I don't have a color printer, and CUPS-PDF apparently isn't affected.
Attach (don't paste) terminal output from running Hallmark Card Studio in plain Wine and sending something to print.

--- Comment #4 from Chris powersurge69@hotmail.com --- Created attachment 50751 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=50751 Hallmark Card Studio output
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37693
--- Comment #5 from Chris powersurge69@hotmail.com --- Thank you for your assistance with this. Perhaps it is my CUPS setup although I haven't experienced any other printing issues in Linux.
Ok, so I entered the following command in terminal to execute Hallmark Card Studio:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/chris/.wine" wine C:\windows\command\start.exe /Unix /home/chris/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/Public/Start\ Menu/Programs/Sierra/Hallmark\ Card\ Studio/Hallmark\ Card\ Studio.lnk
I attempted to print a full color birthday card, but it only printed in grayscale. I then exited the program and attached the terminal output as you requested.

--- Comment #6 from Chris powersurge69@hotmail.com --- Ok, after goofing around with it some more, I tried printing a card in Hallmark Card Studio with green lettering. I noticed that the text in the card printed in green. I then tried it out with a card in Creatacard that had red lettering and the red lettering printed. It seems to be only the graphics that are printing in grayscale. Hopefully this sheds a light on the problem...

--- Comment #9 from Chris powersurge69@hotmail.com --- Just thought I'd check to see if this issue has been resolved since it has been 3 years since I first reported it and the issue still exists. I attached a couple PDF outputs so you can see what it is printing like.
