Summary: the ping command with a wine cmd does nothing Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: cmd AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: joachim.backes@rhrk.uni-kl.de
I built wine from the git version
wine-1.3.2-225-g5815b63.
Then I called "wine cmd", so the cmd utility is started. Then I enter
ping 131.246.137.16
(that is a valid IP address), but the output is only
fixme:ping:main this command currently just sleeps based on -n parameter
and nothing more happens.
My platform: Fedora14 with all updates, kernel 2.6.35.4-12.fc14.i686, network is fully operable.

--- Comment #1 from Dmitry Timoshkov dmitry@codeweavers.com 2010-09-17 06:11:33 CDT --- Is there any application depending on this? Why do you run ping from Wine and not the system one?

--- Comment #2 from JB joachim.backes@rhrk.uni-kl.de 2010-09-17 06:16:35 CDT --- I think: if there exists a ping command in WINE, it should operate correctly.
Sure, I can use the LINUX ping, but if you think so, then a lot of WIN programs are obsolete in WINE (why then WINE supports the InternetExplorers for instance?)

Yes, but if there is no application not functioning due to it being a stub that's not a bug.

Because there are application depending on that components.

--- Comment #4 from Juan Lang juan_lang@yahoo.com 2010-09-17 12:16:46 CDT --- Well, I think it is a bug, but it's a very, very minor one unless an app depends on it.
