Bug ID: 36107 Summary: Steam Fails to Authenticate, chrome.pak fails to load regression Product: Wine Version: 1.7.17 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: mattcbro@earthlink.net
After upgrading to wine 1.7.17 and a recent update to steam 4/26/2014 or thereabouts, steam is failing to authenticate. This happens with my old 32 bit prefix, and with a clean new 32 bit prefix.
The bug looks like a regression to bug 35030. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35030

--- Comment #1 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello Matt,
I can't reproduce this, Steam works fine here with old and new prefixes.
The messages from your terminal are harmless, they even appear on working prefixes.
If a Steam installation in a clean prefix doesn't work then your Linux distro/Wine package might be broken.

--- Comment #2 from Matt mattcbro@earthlink.net --- Actually wine was working fine I think. I could play all my blizzard games. I just deleted my steam folder and reinstalled it on the old prefix, rather than the supposedly clean prefix and now at least I'm in to steam.
I haven't tried to play anything yet. I still think there is an odd issue with authentication, because sometimes steam just hangs for no reason at the aforementioned spot.
Could be specific to my box though, which would be annoying.
Thanks for the help.

--- Comment #4 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
could be also some temporary server-side network problems, not related to Wine. Refining summary since this doesn't seem to be a permanent problem.
If this happens you could try with a Steam client from a Windows box at the same time to see if that happens there too (not 100% reliable method as a temporary network problem might be resolved then).

--- Comment #5 from roger@mailinator.com --- There has been a lot of times you havent been able to connect steam servers. That has been quite frequent issue lately.
I think this bug is invalid.

--- Comment #6 from Ken Sharp imwellcushtymelike@gmail.com --- I've heard quite a few reports of this happening on native clients. Invalid (and there's no logs to prove otherwise).
