Summary: Stem Cell engine Oil Platform Demo hangs without displaying anything Product: Wine Version: 1.1.38 Platform: x86 URL: http://www.devcellsoftware.com/demos.php OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dank@kegel.com
The demo sha1sum d786ba4ee9384d1110535eb3c80518581fe61cd1 StemCellEngine-OilPlatformDemo.exe installs fine; it offers to install DirectX, but I declined the offer. Judging by the installed .desktop file, to start the demo, you do $ cd ~/".wine/drive_c/Program Files/StemCell Game Engine - OilPlatformDemo/System" $ wine StemCell.exe but that produces the following output and just kind of hangs for me on an intel graphics system and karmic.

--- Comment #1 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2012-08-02 08:01:05 CDT --- It looks like http://www.devcellsoftware.com/ was deactivated and it's in some sort of japanese dns parking.
Archive still shows the page but the .exe was not cached. http://web.archive.org/web/20100420001556/http://www.devcellsoftware.com/dem...
Dan, do you have the file to test? Should we close abandoned? Maybe we can use other games from the same engine to test like this: http://www.indiedb.com/games/i-shall-remain/downloads/i-shall-remain-prologu...

--- Comment #2 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2012-08-02 08:56:18 CDT --- Happily, googling the .exe found a download site (hint: use wget) that has a file with the right name and sha1sum.
Accepting its offer to install the vc2005sp1 runtime, but declining the DirectX runtime install, the game starts up properly (yay!) on an Nvidia system. So the bug is either fixed or invalid, and we need to try on an Intel system to see.
(Declining all runtime offers, the game crashes on startup with Backtrace: =>0 0x7b83a092 in kernel32 (+0x2a092) (0x008ee7f0) 1 MSVCRT__invalid_parameter+0x84() 2 MSVCP_char_traits_char__Copy_s+0x61() in msvcp90 3 basic_string_char_grow+0xad() in msvcp90 4 MSVCP_basic_string_char_assign_cstr_len+0x56() in msvcp90 5 MSVCP_basic_string_char_assign_cstr+0x34() in msvcp90 or hangs with Expression 'paTimedOut' failed in 'src/os/unix/pa_unix_util.c', line: 387 so there may be another bug or two to sqeeze out of app startup here.)

--- Comment #3 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2012-08-02 09:25:23 CDT --- But where did you download the file? I can test in an Intel system. When I searched for the file there were only 4 results pointing to this bug and mailing-lists about this bug =(

--- Comment #4 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2012-08-02 09:32:00 CDT --- The fourth hit on google for StemCellEngine-OilPlatformDemo.exe was at narod.ru, and typing in the captcha showed a good looking download link. Clicking on that link tried to use a chrome extension I don't have, but using wget with the link worked. The sha1sum matches.

--- Comment #5 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2012-08-02 19:46:41 CDT --- Created attachment 41248 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=41248 wine 1.5.10 crash
Well, it does not work for me in wine 1.5.10 with the intel driver 2.20. Crash is attached, I guess the issue is in the driver.

--- Comment #6 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2012-08-02 21:43:51 CDT --- Hmm. File an OS bug, maybe?

--- Comment #7 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2012-08-02 22:37:06 CDT --- (In reply to comment #6)
Hmm. File an OS bug, maybe?
Possibly a bad combination of several experimental packages (xorg,mesa,intel driver) in debian =)
I'll try again in other linux flavor.

--- Comment #8 from Henri Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com 2012-08-03 08:47:00 CDT --- There are known issues with the libXi in wheezy at least.

--- Comment #9 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2012-11-04 18:46:48 CST --- I finally managed to solve the libxi issues, now I can see the game "rendering" a black screen with audio in wine-git.
