[Bug 4860] Sun Java plugin installation broken, plugin doesn' t work properly in Firefox

Things were working fairly well with java
until a few months ago, but recently there
have been a bunch of java regressions;
the plain old jre doesn't even install at the
moment.

I don't think the difficulty of the "expose
java plugin to firefox" issue has changed,
offhand.
