Summary: Shareaza does not save certain preferences [RE: Bug 14269] Product: Wine Version: 1.3.8 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: trapdoor6@gmail.com
This is a similar issue as described in bug #14269 [still open] but it's related to different Wine versions: 1.3.8. I also noticed it on a few earlier developer and stable versions, I guess it's been never fixed in Wine. Please find details below:
------------------
Software: Shareaza project page: http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/ version: 2.5.3.0
Problem details:
1) Under 'Tools > Shareaza Settings > General > Library' option: 'Quick hashing (Uses more CPU)' Enabling it works only for one session. After restarting Shareaza it's disabled again.
2) Under 'Tools > Shareaza Settings > Networks > Gnutella' and '~ > eDonkey' option: 'Always connect to Gnutella / eDonkey' Enabling these won't be saved. After restarting Shareaza both are disabled again (which means that Shareaza connects only to Gnutella1 and I need to connect to the other networks manually in the 'Network' tab in the main window).

Is that a regression since 1.1.7? Did you try with 1.1.7?

I don't know when this regression started and I haven't tried 1.1.7 to test the current case. It was released over 2 years ago and I probably was using it at that time. If I had Shareaza running on it I wouldn't remember now how it worked. If I compile it now (I don't think I could find anywhere suitable .deb packages of Wine 1.1.7 for my current system), test and see that it works OK, I'd have to go further and test the next versions until I'll find the first one where the regression happens. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to start the process, I think? The regression may start somewhere close to 1.1.7 or very far from it. I don't have the time to find it out and also this isn't a big or urgent issue (maybe a bit annoying though), at least not for me. I just spotted the problem some time ago and I didn't want to leave it without reporting (I waited to long anyway). I'm not a regular Shareaza user. If I was, I would certainly have done more tests.
I can only say for sure that 1.3.8, 1.3.7 and a couple of earlier 1.3.x versions were affected. AFAIR 1.2.0 was affected too; after 1.2.0 I switched to development branch so I don't know about 1.2.1 or 1.2.2.
FWIW I get .deb's for Wine, wine-gecko, etc. (for Ubuntu 10.10 amd64) from the following PPA repository: 'PPA for Ubuntu Wine Team' https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa/

OK. I'll start it as soon as I can. I'm going to build 32-bit Wine 1.1.7 on a 64-bit system. I'll let you know the outcome.

Built and tested. And no, on Wine 1.1.7 Shareaza doesn't remember those settings either. Exactly the same behaviour as on Wine 1.3.8. So to me there's no regression here and you were right it was worth testing to make sure about that.
One more thing. In case if that would matter, I always use the 'SS2 optimized Shareaza' and I tested that version now on Wine 1.1.7 as well. There is also a standard version, both are listed here: http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/?id=download . I was wondering if it can run on 32-bit Wine but it did without any problem.

Certain settings you change will be reverted to the original state when you restart the application. Other settings do apply and they keep the modified value between runs. The program stores its settings in the registry under HKCU/Software/Shareaza.

This is still a thing with both 5.0.2 and 5.15-staging. (verified working in W7)
Point number 2 requires enabling "power mode" from the view dropdown menu. The "don't check for new versions" checkbox seems also affected.
