Summary: Europa Universalis III In Nomine - Crashes at start-up Product: Wine Version: 1.1.4 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: cja@gmx.net
Created an attachment (id=16069) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=16069) Start-up print outs of EU 3 IN
EU3 IN crashes when the main menu is about to be shown.
In my naive eyes it looks like it can have something to do with this:
-- fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_CreateQuery (0x149b90) Unhandled query type 4 fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_CreateQuery (0x149b90) Unhandled query type 5 --
A WINEDEBUG=+d3d,+d3d9 will produce a huge log, therefore it is not attached. I will attach parts of it on request.

No, the demo works with "Bronze" rating. Added new entry today for wine 1.1.5
I think it bug is only "In Nomine" related. As far as I remember, "Napoleon's ambition" works at the same level as the Demo.

--- Comment #5 from Arturo Martinez arturuk@gmail.com 2008-12-24 12:24:02 --- Ubuntu 8.10 with wine 1.1.10
The game works but country borders are corrupt and ships white (with fbo) with pbuffer most of europe is all black instead of various colours
Just rename or delete the avi folder inside the game. It just contains 3 little movies in bink format. If you really want to watch them download a native linux bink player
To get it working create a text file (for example eu3.reg) and paste this:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D] "OffScreenRenderingMode"="fbo" "UseGLSL"="enabled" "VideoMemorySize"="128"
then run regedit eu3.reg
also setup dll overwrites for eu3game.exe (and copy them to system32 in .wine/drive_c/windows/system32/
"d2dxof"="native,builtin" "d3dx9_35"="native,builtin" "d3dx9_36"="native,builtin"

--- Comment #8 from Scott Ortell sortell@gmail.com 2009-04-11 20:02:39 --- I also have experienced this bug without the vanilla wine install. Using wine 1.1.19. The last part of my backtrace reads: Backtrace: =>0 0x7b8443c3 in kernel32 (+0x243c3) (0x0032edc8) 1 0x7ee53768 in d3dx9_36 (+0x13768) (0x0032edf8) 2 0x7ee4e020 in d3dx9_36 (+0xe020) (0x0130d0bc) 3 0x00000043 (0x00be106c) 4 0x009944c0 in eu3game (+0x5944c0) (0x009cfd50) wine: Call from 0x7b844350 to unimplemented function d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXCreateEffectPool, aborting fixme:service:EnumServicesStatusW 0x129dd8 type=30 state=3 (nil) 0 0x87e780 0x87e78c 0x87e788 Killed
I am downloading the EU3 demo and will try that to see if the crash occurs in that as well. That way developers can experience it hands on

--- Comment #9 from Scott Ortell sortell@gmail.com 2009-04-11 20:05:20 --- Actually, I should mention that the blink videos actually did work fine for me.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15271
--- Comment #10 from Scott Ortell sortell@gmail.com 2009-04-11 20:08:12 --- Huge spelling mistake in my first post: The crash occurs *with* a vanilla wine install and *without* native DLLs I am also using the beta 3.2a patch for In Nomine
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15271
--- Comment #11 from Scott Ortell sortell@gmail.com 2009-04-11 20:19:03 --- Doing a simple search of "unimplemented function d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXCreateEffectPool, aborting" in Bugzilla resulted in two other programs that might be affected by this bug as well
Need for Speed Carbon http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8030 (See comments 13 & 15)
Star Wars - Empire At War http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7382 (See comment 3)
And I am sure there are more, since it seems most backtraces are attached as separate files in this bug tracker. I would discourage from that practice because it cripples the search feature and prevents developers to trace how large of an impact a certain bug is having overall.
