Hmm. Maybe this requires an 8 bit video mode. Does http://wiki.winehq.org/256ColorMode help?

I tried to set 640x400 via winecfg but I noticed that it doesnt let me set 400. Lowest value is hard coded to 480?
Also this hack could help, but cant test currently

Could someone point what wine source I need to modify to lower the resolution?
wine 2.0rc5 and staging 2.0rc5.

I guess you need something similar to http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commitdiff/c0219a73848245d5f3b85c79330...

--- Comment #9 from winetest@luukku.com --- There are now some issues.
If you run the game not setting virtual desktop, you get only a blank screen.
I don't know if this is fixable. The game is so old that I doubt there were screens that were able to handle 1920x1080. It could be engine problem.
This is like it was before.
Then the other problem. If you set virtual desktop size 800x600 (default) the game sets resolution correctly now and game can be started. BUT. I have some graphical glitches that I didnt have before.
What could cause them? Commit round added only tests basically. I am a bit buzzed currently.

I now know. I was a bit courious and I stared 3dsetup.exe before starting the game and changed from hal to my gpu (the list shows two times my gpu). Reverting back to hal fixes the graphic glitches. I forgot doing this.
But how to fix the black screen when not using virtual desktop? If it's game bug how do you even figure out testing virtual desktop.

Yes, but how about when not running virtual desktop?
I just tested without virtual desktop mode. I still get the same crash as before when trying to run without virtual desktop. But this is kinda configuration error, since you need to have the resolutions what game wants and xrandr doesnt find since there is no such resolution.

You need a monitor that is able to handle such low resolution. Then the demo works fine without VD.

--- Comment #14 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- I have a dual-boot windows 10 - Linux. The demo works in windows but crashes in fullscreen mode in Linux. So the low resolution is supported by my screen, but that does not work in Linux. Maybe the Linux graphic driver is not reportin such a low resolution.

XVFB should be able to handle it as well

You can add more modes into xrandr configuration. I have done this once.
