Summary: Sound dies on video in binkplay 1.0 when mouse is moved outside window Product: Wine Version: 1.3.6 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: leighmanthegreat@hotmail.com
I have a .bik file (in this case extracted from FF8 CD) using binkplay.exe 1.0 I run wine start binkplay.exe Clip.bik This starts a video playing By default, when the cursor is moved outside the window, the video pauses and the sound is muted. Then when the cursor is moved back inside the window, the video resumes but the _sound does not_. Using the binkplay.exe /J option means that the video does not pause when the mouse is moved outside the window and in this case sound is not lost. Terminal gives: fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000100 fixme:dsalsa:IDsDriverBufferImpl_SetVolumePan (0x15a518,0x15b418): stub err:d3d:check_fbo_compat >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_VALUE (0x501) from Framebuffer format check @ utils.c / 1072 fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33ebf0,0x00000000), stub! err:mmtime:TIME_MMTimeStop Timer still active?!
Please tell me what trace to provide.

--- Comment #1 from leighman leighmanthegreat@hotmail.com 2010-12-01 16:25:23 CST --- In reply to an email from Jörg Höhle. Link to FF8FMV zip added. This includes a version of binkplay.exe 1.0 (according to gnome-exe-thumbnailer). Playing a file from FF8 disc extracted with FF8FMV.exe I don't have any other .bik to test with, but I am happy to do so.
Clicking does not have any effect for me.
To add to the excitement: on my netbook I must only move the mouse outside the binkplay window for sound to be killed, on PC I must click to change to a different window for sound to stop (simply moving the mouse outside the window does not pause the video). Both using Ubuntu 10.04 but netbook is using UNE.
1.1.35 seems to work. Bisect to follow.

ntoskrnl.exe: Add stub for KeInitializeSemaphore.
Seems a little unlikely as a candidate but sadly my git skills don't extend to getting this patch to revert in order to test :/

--- Comment #10 from Jörg Höhle hoehle@users.sourceforge.net 2010-12-02 08:48:10 CST --- Your logs show that v1.9 fixed invalid memory accesses, thus I recommend you don't use v1.0 any more. (This does not prove that v1.0 has a memory bug, it might have triggered something in Wine).
it _doesn't_ behave correctly
Now I'm confused. Is v1.9 subject to the regression you mentioned? Is there any regression with it? Do the symptoms you describe in your original comment #0 still apply?

--- Comment #11 from leighman leighmanthegreat@hotmail.com 2010-12-02 09:11:02 CST --- A 1.0 .dll is bundled with a game (FF8) and I suspect this may be why the sound does not work in videos in the game.
1.0 works in wine-1.1.35 but has regressed to show this bug. 1.9 shows this bug even with wine-1.1.35

--- Comment #12 from leighman leighmanthegreat@hotmail.com 2010-12-02 10:20:48 CST --- Found a non-virus-infested binkplay 1.0 and that seems not to work even in 1.1.35 either so maybe this is not a regression after all *sigh*

--- Comment #13 from Jörg Höhle hoehle@users.sourceforge.net 2011-01-12 15:00:30 CST --- I cannot confirm this with wine-1.3.10. Sound and animation resume in both full screen and virtual desktop modes (in the latter case I need another window, e.g. winemine, for Bink's window to notice that it lost focus). Likewise when using /Z which supposedly tells BinkPlay to use WaveOut instead of DirectSound.
Using binkplay 1.0 (bundled with Patrizier II and Port Royale). Ubuntu Intrepid with on-board AC'97 sound and even PulseAudio (instead of ALSA dmix).

--- Comment #14 from leighman leighmanthegreat@hotmail.com 2011-01-12 16:39:50 CST --- Still no joy here with default bink settings and alsa. Oss and Esound drivers work. With the /Z param all work. Ubuntu Lucid using Pulseaudio N10/ICH 7 Audio Controller? if that means anything

--- Comment #15 from Jörg Höhle hoehle@users.sourceforge.net 2012-02-24 04:33:40 CST --- What about current Wine? The audio back ends were rewritten mid-2011. Does it appear if you avoid PulseAudio, for instance with the new registry key to have winealsa open "plug:dmix" instead of "default"? Bug #29369 is about a strange situation where moving back and forth between screens stops sound only with PA. Your issue sounds more like a DSound notification / PA / window manager issue. What if you disable or enable HW emulation in winecfg's audio tab in wine < ~1.3.30 (that setting is gone since approximately that version)?
