Summary: Microsoft Office 2007 cannot be activated Product: Wine Version: 1.1.43 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: bdrung@ubuntu.com
I have a Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 system builder license. I downloaded Microsoft Office Professional Hybrid 2007 (X16-69463.exe). The installation was done with a clean system:
export WINEPREFIX=~/Desktop/wine wine X16-69463.exe export WINEDLLOVERRIDES="riched20=n" wine c:/Programme/Microsoft\ Office/Office12/POWERPNT.EXE
An error dialog appears showing "Microsoft Office has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install this application.". When clicking on OK, the application will close. Instead the setup should be launched and allow me to activate Office.
Attached the log from running PowerPoint.

--- Comment #2 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2010-05-28 16:55:28 --- I saw similar behavior with the Office 2007 Pro Trial a couple of versions ago, and thought it might be a problem specific to the installers for downloaded versions. Activating the trial is working in today's release, so I can't reproduce it anymore. Could you please retest a fresh install in 1.2-rc2?

--- Comment #3 from Benjamin Drung bdrung@ubuntu.com 2010-05-29 13:14:08 --- I tested a fresh install with 1.2-rc2, but "Microsoft Office has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install this application." still appears.
Both Office Small Business 2007 system builder download version and Office 2007 Pro Trial are still affected. I forgot to mention that both are the German version.
To reproduce you can download the German Office 2007 Pro Trial and run these commands:
rm -rf /tmp/wine mkdir /tmp/wine export WINEPREFIX=/tmp/wine wine X16-69461.exe 2>&1 | tee install.log export WINEDLLOVERRIDES="riched20=n" wine c:/Programme/Microsoft\ Office/Office12/POWERPNT.EXE 2>&1 | tee powerpoint.log

--- Comment #7 from Jonathan Quist jeq@NUalumni.com 2011-03-14 20:41:34 CDT --- I have just encountered the same issue, attempting to install Office 2007 Enterprise under Fedora 14, 64-bit, and Wine 1.3.14-2, 64-bit. So yes, I believe this is still an issue.
After false starts using the install procedure documented elsewhere, I used the procedure for Office 2007 Installer from the AppDB. The install completed, but user-specific setup did not complete, ultimately ending in a truncated error message regarding Building Blocks.dotx.
I completely uninstalled Wine, and re-installed the 32-bit version.
The Office install completed (mine was stripped down to Word only, and no .Net support), and on running Word I have reached the software activation screen. (There it's failing Internet activation; I may simply activate by phone and skip the troubleshooting steps...)
So, if you don't have a need for 64-bit Windows apps, I'd suggest trying the 32-bit approach.

Current console output while trying to perform internet activation.
Although, i've activated a few versions ago - regression or SSL is now enforced by MS side.

--- Comment #9 from boskar bozkar@gmail.com 2011-05-03 12:41:29 CDT --- I've just activated my MSO PL H&S 2007 with box cd key.
As I've switched from my builds (from .tar.gz to 'make install') to http://dev.carbon-project.org/debian/wine-unstable/ it may not be obvious where exactly was the problem, although activation is possible.
