Done. The tests had to be adjusted a bit; they're not particularly
nice now but it's either that, effectively duplicating a bunch of test functions or reducing the tested surface. Ergh. I don't mind a bit of ugliness; the problem is that we're not going to notice when the tests get fixed. Better would be to either duplicate the offending tests, or add some todo fields...
I threw together patches that achieve this; what do you think?
