Regarding this bug, I believe I reported it several years ago, when working for a different company, using their proprietary software. I don't know if the bug could be reproduced with any other Win3.1 software, but I no longer have access to ABREMOTE, the software that had the problem. The company I worked for was Advanced Businesslink (http://www.businesslink.com) and they have primarily shifted to web-based technologies as far as I know. Are you sure your Wine or system isn't totally and utterly hosed? BTW, The algorithm used (26625) is ALG_CLASS_DATA_ENCRYPT | ALG_TYPE_STREAM | 1 and thus it should be RC4: #define CALG_RC4 (ALG_CLASS_DATA_ENCRYPT | ALG_TYPE_STREAM | ALG_SID_RC4) since ALG_SID_RC4 is 1 Hmm, strange, why is the alg id RC4, but the DLL is called RSAENH.DLL?? A bit of research leads me to conclude that the problem is that Linux prevents you from sending packets to a broadcast address, unless the SO_BROADCAST option is switched on. If you're root, this rule no longer applies, which is why running the program as root fixes it. This gives us a problem. Windows 9x allows broadcast sockets without any security. Windows NT+ does not (you have to be an administrator). I'm going to mark this WONTFIX - I believe it's not actually a bug, rather just a part of the Linux security system. I guess we could detect broadcast addresses and set SO_BROADCAST manually in win9x mode, but I'm not convinced it'd actually be a good idea. Reporter - I'd suggest you just run the app as root and trust it: writing to broadcast addresses is essentially a trusted operation anyway as you can easily flood the local subnet. CryptoAPI has been implemented for a long time now iirc, it sounds like a regression or bug, rather than unimplemented API. (must change text colors in the app to see the "?" characters, otherwise it appears to be "blank"). Moreover, the app open a second window that is supposed to be the console for output of the typed commands that is broken (cannot show its content) I'm reporting this version of Take Command, because lastest (5.0) version does not work at all under wine (starts debugger). It is a little MFC application as generated by the App Wizard of MSVC6. I removed everything unnecessary, so the program does nothing really. In the exe the MFC are statically linked.If you size the window to ~half its original size, so that scroll bars appear, and then try scrolling, you will see the static border disintegrate and the button even disapears after a while.
