Expect deadlock! The _EnterSysLevel error seems to be the result of the user attempting to start the Elf Bowling game by pushing the graphical red function buttons at the bottom of the screen (Elf Bowling runs with a full screen); when the red buttons are clicked with the mouse pointer, nothing happens. This doesn't actually crash the game (or Wine), but the game cannot function either. Available for download here: http://www.asrc.info My settings: AlSA driver with the 2.6.3 kernel and 1.02c drivers (those are the ones in 2.6.3). OSS doesn't work at all here with this program. The problem: Click Settings->Audio and do an audio test. If everything goes well you'll hear yourself back. And see in the shell: "Max RMS for squelch: 700.678. Ran out of dst buffer space. Max RMS for test: 700.678. Max Peak: 3000.000000. RMS2Squelch: 0.992782." Those lines are made by the program, not by Wine. Restart the app: Do the audio test again and you'll heard nonsense and see (notice the very high squelch number): "Max RMS for squelch: 6513.454590. Ran out of dst buffer space. Max RMS for test: 6466.442383. Max Peak: 31085.000000. RMS2Squelch: 0.992782. Analysis: 0x0003" When annalyzing with "--debugmsg +wave". You'll see at some point: "warn:wave:widRecorder buffer under run! 230 bytes dropped." And after that a very fast increasing log (70MB in 10 seconds) with all lines like this: "trace:wave:widRecorder bytesRead=536870848 (direct) trace:wave:widRecorder bytes = 2048" Restarting the app won't help. This buffer underrun doesn't always happen after the first restart. But when it finally happens, it won't work anymore untill.... I'm not sure. It's starting to work sometimes after a while. Sometimes not at all. But if the record works (low squelch output, and you heard yourself), it keeps on working as long as you don't restart the app. "out of dst buffer space." These messages are also some buffer error but I think they are not really related to this record problem. They come up only with playback. But that work ok. I hope you're able to recreate the problem. I'll attach a file with: --debugmsg +wave Of a run of just ennough time to get the app running. But with the buffer under run line created by Wine. I can't get OpenGL applications to compile if I don't install Mesa (before installing the nvidia driver). After re-installing, my problems building wine disappeared, although I'm not 100% certain why. To install the Nvidia/Mesa/OpenGL environment I basically follow the directions at: http://linuxselfhelp.com/HOWTO/mini/Nvidia-OpenGL-Configuration/index.html (although I don't do the java or QT part of the howto). Glut isn't listed as a dependency of Wine and it's just a toolkit so I don't see what it has to do with a simple OpenGL installation. I checked and rechecked all over the include files present in my system, or shipped with the OpenGL drivers provided by nvidia, for the occurrence of the string GL_MAX_VERTEX_UNITS_ARB and I didn't find it anywhere. It seems that it has to do with the OpenGL Vertex Blend feature which possibly nvidia doesn't support, that's why all its declarations are missing from the gl.h (or glext.h) files they provide. Since GL_MAX_VERTEX_UNITS_ARB appears inside an if block after verifiying that the driver are Vertex Blend capable, could it be that the check is not 100% accurate? I simply patched it by removing the if block and hardcoding the value of 0 in place of the variable that should have been returned by glGetIntegerv. It works for me gut I'd like to know from people who got it to work what are they exact specs for XFree server and nvidia drivers and if they have GL_MAX_VERTEX_UNITS_ARB present if any of the files that ship with their nvidia drivers. First I modified ~/.wine/config to have the driver winealsa instead of wineoss for sound. I downloaded the current tree from CVS. Then I updated to 2004-01-01. Built, installed it. wine --version gave me 20031223 (it was 200312 and 23 I believe was the day). This worked with winealsa. I then did the same with 2004-01-30 and got 20040121 version. This does not work. Wine starts, opens a window but all I get is an hourglass and a black screen. I have to killall -9 to get rid of it. It is worth noting that when I changed the driver back to wineoss, logged out, logged in and tried to run HL I got the same result. 1. It appears something between the Dec 2003 and the January 21 2004 broke winealsa. 2. It also broke wineoss. 3. On the Dec 2003 build I found that when I started HL and the menu came up there was an animated logo across the top of the screen. I haven't seen this in 1/21/2004 or the current CVS. Let me know what else you need.
