That should be done in such a way to allow developers to release Wine-aware apps with little code added. Such apps would be able to adapt to a Wine environment (though this means they should adapt to a buggy environment) and see what is Wine capable of (instead of Wine stubbing unimplemented functions, the app could resort to another approach). In particular the Chameleon demo runs when this problem is fixed. The error I get from the app is: GLUT: Fatal Error in DummyAppName: pixel format with necessary capabilities not found. Tracing it reveals that it calls X11DRV_DescribePixelFormat MAX_PIXELFORMATS times. So the physDev->visuals array gets filled with visuals from calls to glXChooseVisual. Then it calls X11DRV_ChoosePixelFormat which uses XGetVisualInfo and tries to match that with a value in the array which is where it fails. It seems glXChooseVisual gives different values from XGetVisualInfo. So the fix I tried was to use XGetVisualInfo in DescribePixelFormats as well. On certain fields the RETURN key is supposed to autofill information (enter your last name and it autofills the rest of the info about you). However, the RETURN key is ignored. If I open a text entry option in Remedy AR, it sees the RETURN key. To make it even more confusing, a colleague has it working - but only if logged in as him - i.e. I "ssh bobh(a)bobh" and run the AR app and the return key works. Basically, it seems as if button press works but the game does not receive the button release event (I need to press on the middle button to remove the 'scrolling'). Of particular interest to me is the failure I get trying to run Lotus Notes R5 client. Running wine nlnotes I receive the following messages: fixme:ntdll:NtQueryVolumeInformationFile device info not properly supported on this platform fixme:file:get_default_drive_device auto detection of DOS devices not supported on this platform fixme:cdrom:CDROM_GetInterfaceInfo not implemented for BSD err:virtual:map_image Image was mapped at 0x205d0000: standard load address for a Win32 program (0x00400000) not available err:virtual:map_image Do you have exec-shield or prelink active? wine: could not load L"C:\\notes\\nlnotes.exe" as Win32 binary Apparently at version 1.9 of loader/main.c, some code was removed that changed the way memory was mapped, and the workaround for this was basically to revert to version 1.89 (this is what the FreeBSD port does). It seems that in the last few days some new functionality was added to libwine to handle this, and a new file, mmap.c, was added in libs/wine. I am assuming this is where the failure is, but I don't yet have an understanding of how this code works. I have better luck setting libGL to use libc_r, but I think the particular copy of wine I had had some other bugs. It happens when using nv or nvidia driver, doesnt matter if i use the X provided drivers or the binaries from nvidia. Trying to run the Broodwar or Starcraft update programs leads to either an error about Starcraft/bnupdate.exe being in use or a crash at dialog.c:639 because DIALOG_get_info returned NULL, which looks offhand like WIN_GetWindowLong being unhappy with one of its arguments. I'm not running with any Windows DLLs (although I have Win98 lying around somewhere so I could try some if that would be helpful). I tried various Version settings to no effect (win95, win98, winnt, winxp). I'm not familiar at all with Windows programming, but am a C programmer by profession, so I could do some debugging with a bit of direction (or would be happy to let someone log in to debug). The behavior of whether it crashes or gets an error seems to depend a bit on whether I'm running it as root or a normal user.
