We are sorry for the inconvenience." My installation is completely fresh, using Wine 6.23 and Pop!_OS 21.10. No changes have been made to the default Wine installation, since I was unable to find much information surrounding this error I have only tried to change the Windows Version to Windows XP using winecfg (with no luck or change). The game properly works when running it in Windows XP. The install worked flawlessly, but when I try to launch the game, a Wine Crash Report shows up with the backtrace attached. I also tried it with wine 1.8; the crash is also there. The provided certificate is expired, but it shouldn't matter because of this flag. The chain validates properly on MacOS with Mono. However on Wine with dotnet472, the policy fails with error NotTimeValid. I believe there is a bug in `chain.c verify_base_policy`: https://github.com/wine-mirror/wine/blob/e6138a52a907fe4b9b03abe0b6cf6cfb9f…. In this if statement, the policy verification routine determines that the certificate has expired, but it should ignore the error if `checks` contains `CERT_CHAIN_POLICY_IGNORE_NOT_TIME_VALID_FLAG`, and this logic is missing. There are multiple bug reports with the same issue already. Overall it seems to me that the issue was fixed before but somehow reappeared. Executable: https://download.microsoft.com/download/5/f/7/5f7acaeb-8363-451f-9425-68a90… The installer itself starts correctly. When comparing it with a proper windows environment, the installer checks for available packages before giving the user the opportunity to select which packages to install (in my case the defaults plus the MFC libraries and the Windows 8.1 SDK, so the goal is to get this stack installed for an linux based build server which has to compile the windows binaries). While this takes some time on windows, wine instantly switches to the next "finalizing" step, which causes the application to close shortly afterwards. I suspect the winsock error causing the installer to not find any downloadable packages, resulting in a proper finalizing and closing. If any specific additional logs are required, please tell me and i will add them here instantly. Now, fitgirl repacks crashes at random progress, while rg-mechanics repacks are straight to the error, the same as always. I read that in the past this was fixed so that's a regression but since no-one has reported this and apparently no one has that problem, I'm filing this bug as normal. For the record: this bug happens since I installed linux, at the time Wine was at version 6.0. There is no indication of the issue in the normal terminal output, but the error dialog and log files in the game directory says: --- error dialog quote --- General protection fault! Script call stack: Function APBUserInterface.cUIDataStore_Chat|OnPlayerProfileChanged --- end error dialog quote --- Searching the web for that function I found a trace of a topic on the developer's forum about that issue. That website is down, there is no cached version on google and no copy of that page on the web archive, but some google query trick gave me an indication that the issue might be related to wbem: https://www.google.be/search?q=repository+site%3Aforums-old.gamersfirst.com… --- google quote --- Anybody who gets this problem should check and if neccessary reset the Repository, located at C:\Windows\System32\wbem\repository. --- end google quote --- I attached a WINEDEBUG=+tid,+wbemprox,+seh terminal output in case it is helpful in any way. The issue happens with both Steam and GamersFirst versions, with and without wine-staging. My wineprefix is 64-bit. I didn't test with a 32-bit wineprefix. Steps to reproduce (There is no purchase required for running the dedicated server, so by following below steps anybody can try and reproduce the above behaviour.) 1. Download "rFactor2 full installer" (currently Build 134) from http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/rf2dl/. Also download at least one .rfmod file from the category "Content (cars, tracks, etc)". I´d recommend "2012 FIA Formula Two", since it has no updates yet, no dependencies on other content and is comparably small, thus making its installation the least troublesome. 2.a Install rFactor2, take a note of where you choose the "Data and Settings Destination Folder" to be, or make it the same as the "Core Destination Folder". 2.b Put your .rfmod file(s) into the "Packages" directory inside the "Data and Settings Destination Folder". 2.c Change directory to the "Core Destination Folder", run "Core/ModMgr.exe" and Install the Mod(s) 3. Still in the "Core Destination Folder", run "Core/rFactor2\ Dedicated.exe". Leave the default settings by clicking the bottom right button in the first 3 windows that appear. Then assign a "Race Name" (top left) on the last dialog (the one that has "Load Track" written on the bottom right button). Then click "Load Track"... Actual Result The server starts loading but crashes in the process after a short time and the following message is output on the terminal: "wine: Unhandled exception 0xc0000417 in thread 29 at address 0x5369bc (thread 0029), starting debugger..." Also, the crash window of wine titled "Program Error" comes up, but when I click "Show Details", the window of "rFactor2 Dedicated.exe" is closed immediately and the window "Program Error Details" pops up but won´t show any details, it stays at: "Loading detailed information, please wait..." Whereas, when after the crash I choose to close the "Program Error" window there is more information on the terminal, see the attachment. Expected Result A running rFactor 2 dedicated server. Build date & Platform Build date: 2013-01-19 gcc --version: gcc (Debian 4.7.2-5) 4.7.2 wine --version: wine-1.5.22 Build and run environment is a chroot containing Debian Sid i386, host is Debian 6.0.6 (Squeeze). Build dependencies were installed by "apt-get build-dep wine" Additional information The program was run semi-successfully already, but I cannot reproduce it anymore. But even then it crashed more than 75% of the time with the symptoms described above. When it successfully launched, the server sometimes could not connect to the matchmaker. The game does work and before the game devs implemented https there ware no issues. Now when they did implement https the game can't connect to the required server. Gnutls, openssl and libwbclient are installed. Log file below. If wine devs are interested, the game devs provided me with a small net framework application and it's source code that is based on the code in the game for testing.
