What would happen if you fooled a game that needed 256 colour depth into thinking that's what it is running in while it is actually running at 24bit? I ask this as I am unable to change my colour depth and reduce my resolution below 640x480. And even when I could change my colour depth it meant restarting the X-server. If you try to skip the intro, it works until you try to play another video, at which point the game locks up. This issue appears to have been present in both reports on AppDB, dating from 2008 to 2011. I tried using winetricks to install avifil32.dll, which failed, so I grabbed the DLL out of the exe it downloads manually and installed it myself, to no avail. If I trace all, I find a bunch of MCI spam around when it hangs up, so that might be the faulty component. I've attached a truncated log, since it just repeats that spam until I force quit. Message: Failed to schedule time on the UI thread. A continuation would never execute. In the log there were indications that something might be wrong with the xaudio 2_7 dll. So I just applied faudio via winetricks and the games work again. Unfortunately this is not a permanent solution as there is a bug on platforms like Mac OS, FreeBSD that if you use native,buildin xaudio the sound does not work correctly in terms of stuttering and slightly distorted sound. As far as I know the games worked correctly in Wine 6.0.1. Unfortunately it is not possible for me to test more in wine-devel because the port is very often defective and also just once again not working. A standard windows text-box should open in the upper-left corner of the screen letting you input a new name for that object. This text window is hidden behind the game screen when it is opened thus it is inaccessible/not usable. Tried with virtual desktop mode and fullscreen: both have the same issue. Nothing obvious appears in the terminal. Last version when it worked: Wine-6.0. Bisecting revealed commit 4ce1d7f93a35322d149cbde29d619e2580159a80 was the culprit. Can't revert it on current Wine but the rename window appears properly with the previous commit. Steps to reproduce in RCT 2 demo: Start a new game with the left-most icon at the bottom, select either "Crazy Castle" or "Six Flags Belgium" scenario. Left-click on an object to open an information window, select the rename icon (looks like a brownish name-tag). A text-box is opened but it is placed behind the game screen. I have tried various Linux distributions using 4.x kernels (Bodhi Linux 5, Linux Mint Debian Edition 3, Debian 9.9, Debian 10, Ubuntu 16.04) and also tried Wine 2.0.2, which is the oldest available binary package, and everytime the above error occurs. Building a custom Linux kernel for the machine also didn't change anything. Trying to build Wine 1.7.18 on Debian 10 resulted in several compile time errors that I am not able to fix, so I am stuck with available binary packages. Debugging and changing the Windows application itself managed to move the crash from the first network connect to when the application is shutdown. Only widely available network component libraries for Delphi were used (Indy and ICS), there is no self-developed net code. So, the same Windows executable works with Wine 1.7.13 on Linux 3.11, but it crashes in Wine 4.x (I tried several packages from Ubuntu and Debian from winehq) on modern 4.x Linux kernels on this machine. I was using the GOG version of Incoming, but the demo (the same one mentioned in bug 44864, MD5: 5b1fff6863768eeff95167e510d09a2e, SHA256: dcc55a269c33ea5363cd937284752d7ffe57f4774c55a38dfdd4a9172376563c, 3.8MB file called incoming.exe, available via cnet.com at least) also exhibits the same issue. I have attached the terminal output from the GOG version as log.txt, and I will also attach the terminal output of the GOG version as well as the demo versions of those two. The wine version I am using is from the Arch Linux repositories, and I am using a clean 64 bit wineprefix with no settings changed at all (this setup worked fine before), although I also tried a 32 bit wineprefix, same results. Also, the .net 2 installer would be happier in winxp mode if wine supported junction points (see bug 10601): "The .NET 2.0 Framework installer checks if the target volume is NTFS filesystem type and then uses the FSCTL_SET_REPARSE_POINT ioctl (used for mount points and junctions) to create junction points for each registered assembly in Windows SxS directory to GAC assembly directory (link target). The VS2022 (and I think also VS2019) C++ standard library in C++20 mode uses this DLL to implement the timezone database as specified by the C++ standard. The standard library loads this DLL dynamically with LoadLibraryExW (see <https://github.com/microsoft/STL/blob/ef62d3fa0b8e4e2406b9bb74e916e1ca8a1df…>) and throws a std::system_error (see <https://github.com/microsoft/STL/blob/ef62d3fa0b8e4e2406b9bb74e916e1ca8a1df…> and <https://github.com/microsoft/STL/blob/ef62d3fa0b8e4e2406b9bb74e916e1ca8a1df…>) when it cannot load it. In order to provide compatibility with modern Windows versions, IMHO Wine should thus ship a compatible icu.dll. A similar issue also exists for older Windows versions even on the Microsoft side (see <https://github.com/microsoft/STL/issues/1911>). This issue arose since I recently modernized timezone handling in OpenMPT by using C++20 chrono. For now, I have worked around the problem in OpenMPT. Installing dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe downloaded from the MS website, the installer will open and verify the integrity of files. The next stage will attempt to install the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile. Towards the end of this install the installer will fail with HRESULT 0x80070643, leaving little or no information in the %TEMP% folder as to the cause. The installer will only run if wine is set to WinXP. Process used to reproduce: WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-net40 sh winetricks gecko WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-net40 sh winetricks windowscodecs ie7 msxml3 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-net40 wineboot WINEDEBUG=+relay WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-net40 wine Downloads/net40/dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe &> net-out I also attempted to install the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile prior to installing the Full package. This provides the same error, the only difference to the above process used was the filename of the Client Profile installer dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64.exe. Each time I attempted to install I used a clean WINEPREFIX, deleting the prior one before attempting again. My OS is Xubuntu 15.04, 64-bit. It is a graphic programming tool for a series of controllers for heating, solar heat, warm water and similar that are made by the Austrian company "Technische Alternative". The programme can be downloaded from their website at http://www.ta.co.at/de/download/software/tapps-2.html . I'm using the German language version. The programme seems to run fine, apart from the one point: Whenever I try to copy/paste an Object, wine crashes as soon as I select "paste" from the menu or type Ctrl-V on the keybord. The problem persists in wine 1.7.47; cf. discussion on https://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=24953&sid=cea1d4583ec853e13e85… . Attached is wine's crash report. After selecting "Ok" following message appears: "Failed to activate the Bonjour service." Only once i got no messages/errors with wine-staging-7.18 in 10-15 attempts. Downgrade wine-staging to v7.17 solves the problem.
