However, nothing happens if you press that key to swap weapons under Wine. You can type '^' in chat just fine though. Likewise, you can swap weapons if you bind it to another key like 't' or if you press the swap button with the mouse. Once you change the binding away from ^, it is no longer possible to return to ^ since the dialog doesn't register the key press either. (You can still reset all controls back to default; there's a button for that.) Testing further, it turns out that you also can't bind the ´ key (Acute accent). >From images online I do believe English keyboards have a ` (Grave accent) button, which probably works the same as the German ^ and ` keys. To make sure I'll spell it out anyway: 1. Press ^ once and you get a sort of preview of that character. 2. Usually you'd now press e.g. 'a' to get 'â'. If you actually want ^ without anything below it, you have to press ^ a second time. I suspect that this special behavior is why these two specifically are affected. It's very possible that the English ` is also affected, but that's not testable for me. (patched to the latest 1.0.2 version) performs badly in Wine. This issue is described in several test results on the Appdb page of the game, too. I can observe the following symptoms: - After the intro video played, it takes almost 2 minutes to get into the main menu (without noticeable hdd activity). - When I get into the game and visit any places in the port (Governor, Merchant, Tavern etc.) it usually takes the game 15-20 seconds to display the next screen (although music plays continuously). - While sailing, the game frequently "freezes" for 2-3 seconds without no apparent reasons. When those hiccups occur all animations freeze on the current screen until the next screen is loaded but music plays fluently. Reducing the screen resolution, graphical details or disable audio doesn't help. I remember playing this game several years ago in a native Win XP without this issues. No demo available. I implemented the program so it waits for ReadFile to return FALSE, that's when the input is supposed to be over: ###### BOOL success = ReadFile(handle, buffer, 4096, &buffer_max, NULL); if (!success) return FALSE; ###### Now that's not right anyways, but it exposes a slight difference in Wine cmd: 1) Following input hangs on Wine, but not on Windows: "echo test | find test" It works on Wine when using "winetricks -q cmd" 2) Following input hangs on both Windows and Wine: "find test < test.txt" Wine's implementation of the pipe | uses the redirect operator < internally. This leads to the pipe working differently on Wine, i.e. blocking ReadFile when it's not supposed to. In order to get the latter to install, I followed a suggestion to use the Windows XP version in winecfg for the installer. This seems to do the trick with the installation. Instead of showing the "Ubisoft Connect" Text alongside a logo inside a frame with small status updates in the lower left corner before displaying news and installed games, it just shows an empty black window that never vanishes and never gets content. On the console variuous notes about shaders are repeated. The AppDB says using corefonts via winetricks should make it boot, but it doesn't. This was common practice back in the day; gamers would always throw an audio CD-ROM in the drive so they could listen to music while they played. Games often came on hybrid audio/data cds. When you insert a hybrid audio/data cd, though, you have to tell the system to mount the data portion, else wine won't give it a drive letter. So, if you jump through those hoops (e.g. insert a cd-rom and tell the system to mount it), the game will continue to the next problem: you can tell the game to start, and the welcome screen then goes away, but no game window comes up. Basically, the problem I have is that sometimes, between turns, the game will have long delays in which nothing seems to happen (ie the application hangs). It takes much, much longer than usual to load or interpret a resource than it should take (or so I assume). A bigger problem is that these delays are much longer when starting up the game or any significant screen changes. It can take more than a minute longer to load the game or any specific areas than it would in Windows. The terminal isn't spewing out anything during these loading periods, so attached is all terminal output generated by the app, even outside of these hanging bits. Steam output may be mixed in too. Notes: Unfortunately, this game is not available for free, however, it is available for fairly cheap (5 euros) for those willing to try. I think some other TellTale games (and free demos) have the same issue however (they all run on the same engine, though all of them have some minor differences, improvements, etc.). Using the Steam version, but I'm sure the non-Steam version has the same issue (though I couldn't test as Wine 1.3.7 wouldn't load the game for me). The game works in 1.3.8, though with loading problems. Another note is that I am playing the game on a FAT32 partition. This operation systematically lead to an NULL pointer dereferencement error. I tried multiples names and MSI files, It occurs on a up-to-date Wine 8.1-staging and Wine 8.2 (non staging) from official ArchLinux repositories. Wine prefixes were cleaned before each try. Steps to reproduce: 1. wine write 2. Ctrl+P (File -> Print), it's fine to print empty document 3. Select "Print to file", set "Number of copies" to 2, select Pages 1 - 1 for clarity 4. Press OK, save "output.prn". When the bug is not present output.prn contains the comment %%cupsJobTicket: copies=2 otherwise this comment is missing from the generated Postscript file. According to my testing last version of Wine that was able to correctly print multiple copies is wine-7.22, wine-8.0-rc1 is already broken. It's not really possible to correctly find the offending commit because breakage has side effects like a failure to create "output.prn". Sends the pointer to that interface to another thread: 0110:trace:ole:NdrBaseTypeMarshall value: 1505048 3. Releases and frees the interface: 0110:trace:ole:NdrInterfacePointerFree (04D4F594,01505048,1025B69C) 4. Receives the interface pointer on the other thread: 0100:trace:ole:NdrBaseTypeUnmarshall value: 1505048 5. Uses the interface on the other thread, despite it being freed: 0100:trace:ole:ClientIdentity_AddRef 01505048 - before 0 6. MinGW-w64 widl has crashed without producing any output, just left some files with garbled filenames (looks like a zero terminator got missing in a C string). So I have built wine widl.
