I tried to run the test harness for my .NET File Systems DLL on Wine, and it didn't get very far. Almost nothing works because it wants the volume serial number, which on actual Windows is a cheap call. Source code line of failure: https://github.com/joshudson/Emet/blob/302fe61d0b8614e2a57930fc75cffa034ba3… What's interesting is this code *doesn't want* the volume serial number; it *wants* any unique volume identifier given a handle where all handles on the same handle get the same result. I could in theory detect wine here if I had a good way to implement the problem elsehow on Wine; say by one of the wine specific IOCTL calls. (The obvious solution is if I get back Invalid Function here; make the wine-specific call before giving up.) Interestingly, it uses OpenGL natively. In any case, the game seems to crash on boot with a page fault: 0160:err:ole:CoUninitialize Mismatched CoUninitialize wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0060A000 at address 100548ED (thread 0134), starting debugger... According to WineHQ reports, the last reported working version was in the Wine 1.x era. Unfortunately, running the game with WINEDEBUG=+relay won't produce the same error, the game silently exits in this case. I have added these dumps regardless, they might help you. I tried figuring out which part of wine is problematic myself, but I'm just not versed enough in the WINAPI C stuff. I remember trying to run this throughout the wine 4.x-7.x versions, but I always get the same error. I also remember trying some native C libraries a while ago, but same result. I tried compiling ancient wine versions to see where the regression happened, but this proved too troublesome, since they require headers/packages not really provided by modern distributions anymore. Finally, I decided it is best to just report this bug. My setup: Arch Linux Ryzen 3600X 32GB RAM AMD RX590 In the attachment I have added these dumps: -WINEDEBUG=+loaddll,+relay,+seh,+tid -WINEDEBUG=+all -The wine page fault report I can provide other dumps or try some things other things if you want as well. An interesting observation is running this game in a 64-bit prefix will produce a secdrv loading error. Same thing with a 32-bit WIN98 prefix. I have ISOs created from original discs that I am installing from. Setup.exe works fine -- I choose to change the install location to C:\ND\DangerbyDesign\ because previous attempts to run game from the default location result in it looking for a CIFTree file in the C:\ND\DangerbyDesign directory. That's not the issue. When installed correctly, the game appears to start, the screen goes black, resolution changes to the game's chosen 640x480, and then the game quits (leaving my linux desktop resolution in 640x480 mode). This is the issue. I assume this is a crash, but I either haven't found, or don't understand the outputs of the WINEDEBUG logs well enough to diagnose the issue. This problem occurs in different sections of QQ, DingTalk, and corporate WeChat. For example, some fonts on the landing page of QQ are not displayed； some fonts are not displaye when sending a message on the meeting interface of corporate WeChat. But on M1, APPs called API:ExtTextOutW, and then text show fails. I just started to suspect that QQ has different versions installed on different machines, so I packaged all the files of QQ installed on the virtual machine into a zip file, and then took this file to the physical machine to run, but the text still cannot be show on the physical machine. I don't know why QQ calls different APIs on the physical machine and the virtual machine to output text, so I'm asking for your help. If I understand it right, bug 47808 was primarily about native libraries getting called at a win32 stack which was not yet committed. Those native libraries then jumped over the guard page, therefore the stack got not grown, instead a crash reported. This aspect was fixed by using the syscall interface and therefore bug 47808 was closed. But there is another issue that causes a msys2-forked process crashing, because after the stack was grown it still misses the PAGE_READWRITE flags. For this Zeb Figura included in the first attachement to bug 47808 "always expand the stack if within the stack reserve" a line adding the flags "VPROT_COMMITTED | VPROT_READ | VPROT_WRITE" to the page that gets the VPROT_GUARD removed in grow_thread_stack. This modification still enables a forked process to run. The issue can be reproduced with an unmodified wine by just - running msys2 bash.exe interactively - then trying to start e.g. notepad from it. Attached file shows the stack when the stack gets allocated - in a working msys2-parent process and - in a failing msys2-forked child process. Internet Explorer 7 or later is required. Continue?" If I continue, a wine error (page fault) is produced. Something is preventing the launcher from detecting that IE is "installed". Attached is the console paste of all the "fixmes" produced when I click continue, before the page fault popup is shown. I could post the page fault but I don't think there's any point? For example, if I want to install something I have in that share and I run the `setup.exe` file from `wine explorer`, it works; but if I run it from `wine uninstaller`, it fails saying that characters "/:<>|" are forbidden in paths. Also, if I installed MS Excel and try to open a .xslx file from a samba share in Nautilus (right button > open with > MS Excel), it fails saying that it cannot find the file. This makes the UX very uncomfortable, because the user needs to copy the file to a local drive, edit it, and then copy it back to the network share.
