Tested with the latest wine from trunk at the time of writing (2.11). The executable of the game can be recovered from a nightly ISO build of ReactOS or I can eventually attach it here. Program is portable version of UK's Kalender.exe from http://www.ukrebs-software.de/download/kalender/Kalender_Portable.zip Present on this machine is one of the 2.5.x series (not sure which and cannot start the program to check) Steps to reproduce: Start running the program either 1. from PSMenu portable program launcher (itself install on Wine), OR 2. right click the Kalender.exe file in Thunar and select "Open wwith Wine Windows Program Loader" Actual Result: Program fails to start, crash report displayed. When the dialog opens, it shows the files in some directory in the right pane, and a tree view of the directory hierarchy in the left pane. The tree view shows Favorites and Desktop (which is expanded to show My Computer, My Documents, Trash, /). If you then click on any of the + or - symbols in the tree view, the view in the right pane jumps to Favorites. For example, click the + next to My Computer and the view on the right changes to Favorites (which may be empty). The directory shown in the right pane should probably not change when the user clicks a + or - symbol in the left pane. WinUAE is one program which uses that type of file dialog. To show the problem, download and run the WinUAE installer, check the box to run the program at the end. When you want to stretch the width beyond 1080, the window of the application on windows will no longer deformed. But in wine, you can continue to stretch the window, but the excess part is not rendered (pure white). The same is true for shrinking. In wine, you can shrink a window infinitely, which will cause a crash. I don't have any good examples of reproducing the problem without an account now.The example I found that can reproduce this problem is Netease Cloud Music. On Windows, it can be stretched up to 1080, but in Wine, it can be stretched infinitely. Before installing the .NET Framework, I removed wine-mono. I got the following error message when I tried to run the above program: Hello world! Unhandled Exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at System.Diagnostics.DiagnosticsConfiguration.Initialize() at System.Diagnostics.DiagnosticsConfiguration.get_IndentSize() at System.Diagnostics.TraceInternal.InitializeSettings() at System.Diagnostics.TraceInternal.WriteLine(String message) at ConsoleApplication3.Program.Main(String[] args) wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x1aa460fd (thread 0009), starting debugger... The problem is with the line "Debug.WriteLine(...)". However, the same application compiled with 32-bit works well. I found out that I got the similar error at other positions when I ran our in-house 64-bit .NET program, even if I don't use Debug.WriteLine(...), so I created the hello-world program to reproduce it. This particular windows program uses SO_REUSEADDR socket option and opens two sockets. Lets call the first one socket A, and the second one Socket B. The SO_REUSEADDR from the Windows application is translated by "wine" into a SO_REUSEADDR in Linux. Unfortunately the behaviour of these is different between Windows and Linux so the Windows application fails to run on Linux under wine. 1 ) On windows: All received unicast UDP packets will arrive on the first opened socket. Thus on socket A. 2) On Linux: All received unicast UDP packets will arrive on the last opened socket. Thus on socket B. The problem is that this windows program only expects to receive unicast UDP packets on socket A, and thus it sees no packets. There are no currently existing socket options in Linux that would permit wine to simulate the Windows behaviour. And thus, the reason I am asking the question here. Please can we add an extra socket option to the Linux socket options such that we can get wine to simulate Windows correctly. I.e. behave like (1) above. Now wine is pretty good at simulating most things Windows throws at it, but socket options is not one of them yet. Also note, that (1) is actually more secure than (2) because it prevents other applications with the same UserID from hijacking the socket. Although (2) is more helpful in more gracefully handling some error edge cases. I assume there are more, but this is the only example that I've reliably run into at the moment: == To Recreate Run Cemu under a 64bit Prefix. Start Mario Kart 8. After Mario announces the game, it will crash. == Workaround Compiling Wine without AVX support (i.e. adding the -mno-avx C/XXFLAG) negates the issue. People won't see this when using distro packages because they'll be compiled using something like -march=x86-64 which doesn't enable any of the AVX options (as they aren't available in all processors). If you compile it yourself using something like -march=native then GCC will enable the AVX functions which in turn triggers this issue. I saw this behaviour on both my old i7-5775C and the i7-8700K which has since replaced it. In case it's relevant, it looks like this problem may have not existed before Wine 3.0 because I've tracked down an old post of my own wherein I stated (regarding the Mario Kart 8 crash on Cemu): ======================= Tried on a brand new Wine 3.2 prefix, same issue (Segmentation fault after the splash screen). Works fine with Staging 2.21. More specifically: 002c:fixme:seh:RtlCaptureStackBackTrace (0, 40, 0x25152ba0, (nil)) stub! 002c:err:seh:call_stack_handlers invalid frame 25153728 (0x116a0000-0x117a0000) 002c:err:seh:NtRaiseException Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to dispatch exception EDIT: The issue was vcrun2015. Wine-staging didn't need it.
