This is different from the usual broken apps a la "I failed at porting my 32-bit app to 64-bit" (pointer truncation). In this case, pointers from certain allocations are broken into multiple parts and used as indices into multi-level lookup tables. Pitfall: there is a 44-bit user-mode VA limitation (8TB) for 64-bit Windows which was lifted starting with Windows 8.1+. Wine doesn't respect the 44-bit pre-Windows 8.1 virtual address space limits, allowing process heaps to be placed in 0000'7Fxx'0000'0000 range (128 TB) which causes out-of-bounds access to lookup tables when indices overflow (derived from pointer bits). The exception occurs in entry point, causing 'msxml6.dll' to be unloaded. One workaround is to move Wine's top-down allocations/heaps into 8 TB VA range (Wine preloader) and impose same user-mode address space bits limits as with all 64-bit Windows versions < 8.1 to stay "compatible". I've tested it and it works for native here. Not sure if it's worth to change though. I don't know if a separate 64-bit MSXML6 re-distributable package exists that has been fixed wrt Windows 8.1+ address space limits. MSXML6 is part of Windows OS for newer versions and automatically kept up-to-date. $ sha1sum msxml6_x64.msi 1eb84eeae7729ea5db7fe79779f4e216114261ba msxml6_x64.msi $ du -sh msxml6_x64.msi 2.6M msxml6_x64.msi $ wine --version wine-4.0-276-g84459ba94b Regards -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 30639] New: Audio stuttering and performance drops in Star Wolves 3

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30639 Bug #: 30639 Summary: Audio stuttering and performance drops in Star Wolves 3 Product: Wine Version: 1.5.3 Platform: x86 URL: http://www.gamershell.com/download_8237.shtml OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Keywords: download, regression Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-dsound AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: gyebro69(a)gmail.com CC: patrakov(a)gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Regression SHA1: 275dfb83f2371a476b615b260465afb3cdf67f32 Due to a recent commit in Wine I get severe audio stuttering as well as slowdowns in certain games. This seems to affect only a small number of games, the vast majority of my games are still running fine. Whether these games are buggy ones or it is indeed a problem with the patch I can't decide as I don't have Windows installed to check how these games behave under native Windows. 275dfb83f2371a476b615b260465afb3cdf67f32 is the first bad commit commit 275dfb83f2371a476b615b260465afb3cdf67f32 Author: Alexander E. When I advance in the game or when I load a saved game I get severe audio stuttering and framerate drops below 15 fps. This makes the game hardly playable. If I quit playing and go back to the main menu, everything is back to normal. The demo for the game is protected with Starforce so it cannot be tested. Droplitz (Steam version): this is a puzzle game. A certain sound effect is intended to play when I create a path for the 'drops' and they make their way to their goal. When this happens I observe the same audio stuttering and performance drops. It lasts only for 2-3 seconds so it's not so severe. Armored Fist 3: audio (both music and speech) are stuttering heavily and it affects performance too. Link to the demo added to URL. There is no music in the demo, but you should observe the problem with speech after starting a new game. HoverAce: the same stuttering in audio and slowdowns can be observed. No demo available. Terminal output doesn't show anything related. [Bug 47015] New: Photoshop CC2019 Login screen does not render

PS was installed on windows. I believe I used "winetricks gdiplus vcrun2010 vcrun2012 vcrun2013 vcrun2015 msxml3 msxml6 atmlib corefonts fakejapanese" to get this far. Not using winetricks causes the launcher to output the following and exit immediately: ``` 002a:fixme:ntdll:NtQuerySystemInformationEx Relationship filtering not implemented: 0x4 002a:fixme:ntdll:NtQuerySystemInformationEx Relationship filtering not implemented: 0x4 002a:err:module:LdrInitializeThunk "CRClient.dll" failed to initialize, aborting 002a:err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Initializing dlls for L"Z:\\home\\jenia\\Desktop\\winestuff\\pf\\pf64\\Adobe\\APCC2019\\Photoshop.exe" failed, status c0000005 ``` When trying to launch PS, it does launch, however, there is a small window (which I assume is the creative cloud login screen) which does not render. X ing out of the small window closes PS. Log is attached. Looks to me like it is stuck trying (and failing) to render web content? This version of PS was installed on a Japanese system, so a language support issue might be related. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 58805] New: Chrome Embedded Framework CEF Massive Memory usage
by WineHQ Bugzilla Oct. 14, 2026

Oct. 14, 2026

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58805 Bug ID: 58805 Summary: Chrome Embedded Framework CEF Massive Memory usage Product: Wine Version: 10.16 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: johnpgoodman(a)gmail.com Distribution: --- Created attachment 79459 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=79459 memory usage I noticed that recent versions of Logos Bible software make much more use of CEF and so each panel starts up a new process. I'm sure this is true of lots of other apps too. But the problem is on Mac or Windows CEF is very memory light but for some reason each process uses about 250mb of ram on wine. I've investigated this a little and grok suggests that the problem is likely this: Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) apps like Logos Bible Software spawn multiple renderer processes (~1 per UI panel). On Windows/Mac, each uses 20-50MB RAM by sharing V8 JIT code, Skia graphics caches, and fonts across processes. In Wine on Linux, unshared per-process duplication inflates this to 250MB/process, exhausting RAM with 10+ panels (2.5GB+ total). Root causes: Wine's ntdll doesn't share executable pages; D3D11 re-translates shaders per-process; emulated sandbox adds overhead. It recommends a solution: 3 targeted patches to emulate native sharing: Shared V8 JIT Cache (ntdll/unixlib.c): Map V8's 128MB executable region to /dev/shm once per prefix. Unified Skia/ANGLE Cache (d3d11/utils.c): Global /tmp/wine-angle-cache for shader translations. CEF Sandbox Bypass (Launch flag + winevdm.c): Skip emulated sandboxing. And points out that All Wine CEF Apps would be affected e.g. Discord, VSCode, Steam etc so many 1000s of users. I haven't a great deal of expertise but I've a good track record of working with devs to do testing and builds etc to help patches through. I'd be very grateful for any assistance from a dev with this issue! thanks -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
