This behavior did *not* occur in Wine 9.21 and earlier. ### Behavior: When the plugin window is closed (e.g. via the PitStop GUI), it disappears from Acrobat’s internal state — but remains *visibly open* on screen, frozen, and unresponsive. It is not redrawn or refreshed, and cannot be interacted with. Wine appears to believe the window has been destroyed, but the X11 window remains mapped. This affects usability severely. The bug affects both 32-bit and WOW64 installations. It occurs whether or not a window manager is used. ### Regression Confirmation: - Works in Wine 9.21: PitStop windows close cleanly and disappear from screen. - Broken in Wine 9.22 through 10.9 (latest tested): PitStop windows persist after close. ### Notes: This is *not* specific to WOW64 or any DPI configuration. I suspect the following commit introduced the regression: > `user32: Reimplement WIN_ListChildren() using NtUserBuildHwndList().` The bug appears to be that Wine no longer propagates child window teardown (e.g. `DestroyWindow` or `UnmapNotify`) to X11 for plugin-type windows that are marked as `WS_POPUP`, `WS_CHILD`, or transient. These windows may be missed by the new child enumeration logic. This means the keybindings will be layout-agnostic as long as the user is using a standard physical keyboard -- so e.g. WASD movement will still happen on where the WASD keys would be on QWERTY even if the user's layout is AZERTY or Dvorak. The way Wine remaps vkeys for Dvorak layouts breaks this, resulting in the default controls in most games being unusable and the user having to rebind every key manually (so e.g. WASD in the settings menu becomes ,AOE). I can't imagine translating vkeys like this is actually correct or desireable behaviour. I don't have a Windows machine or the Windows know-how to test this right now, but I'm pretty sure on Windows a Dvorak layout will still be sending standard QWERTY keycodes, making Wine's behaviour incorrect. I've attached a patch that I use to work around this problem by just disabling the Dvorak-specific vkey layout translation. With this patch keyboard binds in games work as expected, and it doesn't break typing into text fields because input into those uses keysyms rather than keycodes. Due to some graphical issues, I switched to the official Wine 10.20 release. After doing so, I noticed that the Share button (the one in the center with the arrow up symbol) on my Xbox Wireless Controller (Model 1914) stopped working. Under Soda 9, the button was recognized as Button 15 in the DInput tab when I overrode the controller in Wine’s game controller settings. However, with Wine 10.20, I'm not able to get back buttons up to 19 (as under Soda 9). Now the maximum amount of buttons I am able to achieve is 13 buttons. >From my research of few days now, it seems this issue might be related to Wine’s controller backend now using XInput only, which doesn’t support additional “misc” buttons like the Share button. It also appears that DInput support can no longer be re-enabled in same way, allowing acces to those extra buttons. Is there any way of a workaround to get back the support for additional controller-buttons? (Or is there already some kind of feature planned allowing ?) What I've tried: - SDL On/off - HiDraw on/off - Disabling XInput in RegEdit by HKCU/Software/Wine/DirectInput/UseXInput - Disabling XInput dlls in library-configuration separately as well as combinations of them. It's hard to tell if a similar console window is opened when running the game on Windows; if there is one, it must be immediately closed because it's definitely gone by the time the game exits. Menu transitions is when the game transitions from "Menu -> Cutscene" or "Menu -> Game", "Game -> Menu", so on and so forth. I'm grouping both games into the same issue because both games, as far as I know, use the same engine, and both exhibit the same bug. While FIFA World Cup 98 does not have a demo version, FIFA: Road to World Cup 98 does: https://archive.org/details/FIFAWC98 FIFA World Cup 98 freezes right after the splash screen of the game (where the game transitions from the splash screen to a cutscene). FIFA: Road to World Cup 98 freezes right after the game tries to start a friendly match. I did try using older Wine versions (the earliest version I tried was Wine 5.15), but it seems that this bug has been present for a long time. The bug can be worked around by using "taskset -c 0 wine ..." when starting the game, using "WINEDEBUG="+thread wine ..." or setting the kernel parameter "maxcpus=1". It isn't a full workaround, the freeze still happens sometimes, but it does work well enough that you can get into a game and play the game. Having two issues for one report was confusing. The issue here is that the UI only updates after the application has been moved around on screen (as shown in the attachment). This occurs on a fresh install of Wine Staging and first noticed in 8.13 (but may be even older). There have been concerns raised that this could be related to the JUCE framework, however that is uncertain. "...the dropdowns don't show the updated selection until a full repaint of the settings window (by closing and opening it again). There are possibly related messages in the log, I would check whether other applications built with JUCE are affected as well." Anyway, the solution involves changing the second argument in SearchPathA inside pif_cmd from progname to filename, then altering both progpath and progname as a concatenated string that is then passed into start_dosbox, whence DOSBox opens and automatically opens the executable at the same location as the PIF. I have tested Wine on two PIF files using this patch, and both seem to work as intended. When wine runs in virtual desktop mode and the intro video of MechCommander is over, as soon as the mouse pointer leaves the window, the game freezes and I get a backtrace on the console. There are no errors or fixmes directly related to the crash. If I then use ctrl+c in the console, the internal debugger of MechCommander starts (this also happens if the crash has not happened), but does not seem to be of any use (missing debug symbols I think), but at least the program does not die totally. If I disable direct draw for MechCommander (edit prefs.cfg in game directory and set "b DirectDraw = F") the game runs in windowed mode itself and I have not seen the crash happen. I have seen it happen with MechCommander Gold and also with the free demo of MechCommander. For that purpose, I installed the xboxdrv (the userspace driver for xbox 360 and 1 gamepads) and after running xboxdrv with the command xboxdrv --silent --trigger-as-button, I started the game. The game has support for joysticks (I made sure I enabled joystick support in the in-game options). However, the game does not detect it, since it does not respond to any button presses or axis movements from the gamepad. When running the game from the terminal, the output I get with the gamepad attached to the PC is attached to this bug report. I have tried running the game natively on Windows 7 and XP SP3 with the gamepad attached and it is detected and runs as expected. Furthermore, by running STO with apimonitor from http://www.rohitab.com/apimonitor in Windows, I was able to determine that the game uses direct input 8, specifically the IDirectInputDevice8 and IDirectInput8 interfaces, to detect and control the system mouse and any attached joystick. It uses in particular the IDirectInput8::EnumDevices to find any available joysticks. In order to determine if this is an issue specific to this game running on Wine, I tried using the gamepad with another game well supported by wine and which also supports joysticks: Trackmania Nations Forever. This one detects the gamepad as a joystick automatically and by adding +dinput to WINEDEBUG, I noticed the following line on the output: Code: trace:dinput:IDirectInputWImpl_EnumDevices (this=0x12f718,0x0004 'DIDEVTYPE_JOYSTICK',0x8fc5a0,0x12238a0,0001). Endless legend crashes after nvidia logo (I think, I can hear their slogan but the screen is black). No crash log is generated. I tried with and with out glsl, same result. Endless space 2 crashes after a few moments. Here there is a crash after a few moments. There is no sound so I don't know when exactly but when emulating win 8.1 there is a crash log.
