Load a file and watch how slow it is, e.g. wine HxD.exe 'C:\windows\win.ini' Without theming, this problem does not happen (i.e. disable theming in winecfg to check). Reverting the mentioned commit makes it fast even with theming, however replacing the version in the Makefile from 5,81,4704,1100 to 6,0,2600,2982 even for comctl32 version 5 makes it slow again EVEN with the commit reverted, so it's probably some different path taken if the version is 6 that makes it slow, and not the code in comctl32_v6 itself. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Not reproducible with the native Wayland driver, nor when running the game under X Server in full-screen mode. Doesn't occur with XWayland and virtual desktop mode in Wine. I have Screamer 4x4 from GOG.com. Demo version is available elsewhere but the bug is not reproducible with the demo. There is an intro movie that is intended to play when you start the game. It is a 1 min 32 seconds long avi file using Intel Indeo Codec 5. The video is not playing in Wine, shows only a black screen, at least it can be skipped by pressing <space>. The video is playing properly using gst-play. When the main menu is loaded, music begins to play (it is a mp3 file). Not interacting with the game in any way, just idling in the menu, there is a crash always exactly after 40-50 seconds. If I open the credits screen from the menu, another track begins to play while the credits are rolling; after exactly 40-50 seconds, the game crashes just as it does in the main menu. If I disable music, the crash doesn't occur in the menus. Here's the twist: with music disabled but sound effects enabled, I start a new game from the menu, and after that same 40-50 second window, the game crashes in the same way. Finally, renaming/removing that one video file makes the crashes go away. Reverting commit 330b680af6130d654cd79e322506e044f64dd220 on top of current git also resolves the crash related issue. This context menu opens behind the main Steam window; therefore, it cannot be interacted with. This happens when running Steam in XWayland and using Wine full-screen mode. In XWayland and virtual desktop mode the menu appears correctly. The problem doesn't occur under X Server and using full-screen (XFCE). I also reproduced the issue in Weston 14.0.2; this rules out the possibility of it being a bug specific to KDE Plasma or KWin as far as I know. I can't check out the native Wayland driver because it has it's own problem: the Steam window is empty/black using Wayland. The same problem with Wine-9.0, 10.0 etc. Wine-Staging has this problem, too. You can reproduce the problem even though you don't have a Steam account. Install the Steam client, let it perform the auto-update and when the login window appears click on <Create a free account> in the lower right corner. There is a drop-down menu under Country of residence, when opened in full-screen mode (XWayland), the list of countries appear behind the main Steam window. Microsoft has open-sourced this Windows built-in library a couple of years ago, so porting should not be that hard: https://github.com/microsoft/Extensible-Storage-Engine I tried to compile the project with WineLib on Linux myself, but I failed miserably. Their makefiles target Visual Studio build tools / msbuild heavily. Without installing windowscodecs via vinetricks, before opening an image, mouseover previews of an otherwise unseen sample image are displayed. After opening an image, it knows the size etc of what it's been asked to open, but the display of it is black. Similarly, the mouseover previews of the various effects are black. On saving, the file appears to be all black. After installing windowscodecs via vinetricks, it displays the iamges and mouseovers of it correctly.
