On Linux, some compositors take the sRGB tag literally (e.g., Mutter), resulting in blown-out oversaturated colors. Microsoft documents this behavior explicitly: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/direct3darticles/high-dynam… "By default, a swap chain created with a floating point pixel format is treated as if it uses the DXGI_COLOR_SPACE_RGB_FULL_G10_NONE_P709 color space." DXVK already handles this for D3D11 games by remapping the color space in PR #3911: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/pull/3911 However, games using native Vulkan renderers (e.g. Hunt: Showdown / CryEngine) bypass DXVK entirely and go through win32u's Vulkan layer, which does not perform this remapping. Affected game: Hunt: Showdown 1896 (AppID 594650, CryEngine native Vulkan renderer) The game creates swapchains with: - imageFormat = VK_FORMAT_R16G16B16A16_SFLOAT (97) - imageColorSpace = VK_COLOR_SPACE_SRGB_NONLINEAR_KHR (0) With HDR enabled, this results in completely oversaturated/blown-out colors because the compositor interprets the HDR pixel values (> 1.0) as sRGB. I tested a prototype fix in win32u_vkCreateSwapchainKHR that remaps SRGB_NONLINEAR to EXTENDED_SRGB_LINEAR when the format is R16G16B16A16_SFLOAT (mirroring DXVK). This fixes the oversaturation and produces correct colors and contrast. Full tone mapping of highlights depends on compositor scRGB support (KDE KWin supports this, GNOME Mutter does not yet). Audio and input continue working but nothing renders. This works correctly on Windows (seamless restore), X11, and XWayland (user clicks taskbar to restore). Two things go wrong: 1. The window ends up with a 0x0 client area, and the driver sets the viewport to 1x1, which causes the compositor to stop sending frame callbacks (stalling Vulkan present). 2. The driver sends xdg_toplevel_unset_fullscreen during the minimize transition, and the compositor responds with a 0x0 configure. The surface is never restored. Steps to reproduce with the attached test program: 1. Build: `x86_64-w64-mingw32-gcc -o fake_minimize_test.exe fake_minimize_test.c -lgdi32 -mwindows` 2. Run: `DISPLAY= WAYLAND_DISPLAY=$WAYLAND_DISPLAY wine fake_minimize_test.exe` 3. Red fullscreen window appears with a ticking frame counter 4. After 3 seconds, the window fake-minimizes (sets WS_MINIMIZE, moves to -32000,-32000) 5. The display freezes. The frame counter stops updating. 6. ESC still quits (the app is running, only the display is stuck) Expected: Window should minimize and restore when clicked, matching XWayland behavior. On Windows and native X11, the restore is seamless; on XWayland the user must click the taskbar (Wayland protocol limitation). The Wayland driver should handle this at least as well as XWayland. Tested on Wine 11.5, Fedora 44, GNOME/Mutter 50.0, Mesa 26.0.3, AMD RX 9070 XT. Verified working on Windows 11 and XWayland. Real-world affected game: Hunt: Showdown 1896 (CryEngine, AppID 594650). This setup previously worked for me in an older real 32-bit Wine prefix. In a newer WoW64 setup, I could not use speechsdk normally because winetricks reported: "This package (speechsdk) does not work on a 64-bit installation. You must use a prefix made with WINEARCH=win32." To continue testing, I had to install speechsdk with winetricks --force. After forcing speechsdk, TextAloud starts and the voices that come with the Microsoft Speech SDK appear and work. However, newly installed third-party SAPI5 voices do not work the same way. In my case, an old NextUp/Acapela voice installer copies the voice files successfully, but the voice does not become properly usable/enumerated in TextAloud. What works: - TextAloud 3 starts - built-in Microsoft / Speech SDK voices are listed - the third-party voice installer copies its files What does not work: - the newly installed third-party voice does not appear as a usable voice in TextAloud - comparing with my old working 32-bit prefix, the behavior is not the same - manually copying registry entries from the old prefix did not restore full functionality I also tested manual registry fixes for the Acapela-related entries and CLSID registration. That was not enough to make the custom voice usable. So the practical result is: under WoW64, forcing speechsdk gives partial functionality only. Built-in voices work, but newly installed third-party SAPI5 voices do not work correctly. This looks like a WoW64 compatibility problem for older SAPI5/third-party voice setups that previously worked in a real 32-bit Wine prefix. Current workaround: I can still use the application through Lutris with Wine-GE 8-26 x86_64, but only by reusing my previously created and already-working 32-bit prefix. That prefix was set up before the newer WoW64 changes. If comdlg32 is builtin, the dialog is usable, but has misplaced option boxes. If comdlg32 is native (installed with winetricks9), it does not and produces Corel diagnostics (enclosed). See enclosed screeshots of both cases, plus appearance under Windows 7. Save dialog has only one misplaced option. Print dialog seems not to have any problems.
