I am working on Linux Leap 15.6 with the latest Suse packages (Wine and Wine-32bit: 9.0-bp156.1.7, Wine-Mono: 8.1.0-lp156.1.1, Winetricks: 20240105-bp156.1.1) from Wine. Until now, Irfanview (version 4.67 64-bit) ran without any problems. Recently, the following has been happening: When I open a new image by pressing ‘O’ (shortcut), Irfanview no longer responds to any keyboard input from that moment on. The mouse works perfectly. It doesn't matter whether I press ‘O’ immediately after starting the program or later. However, when I open files by clicking on the folder icons with the mouse or by clicking on ‘File’ in the menu bar and then clicking on ‘Open’, I can work normally with the keyboard. This problem does not occur with this version of Irfanview under Windows. How can I find out if Wine is the culprit? These symbols render as empty rectangles (tofu) instead of the correct glyphs, even though Segoe UI Symbol font is installed and FontLink is configured. ## Environment - **Wine Version:** wine-11.0 - **OS:** Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS (Noble Numbat) - **Architecture:** 64-bit (WINEARCH=win64, wow64 mode) - **Application:** FL Studio 2025 (FL64.exe) ## Steps to Reproduce 1. Install FL Studio 2025 under Wine 2. Install Segoe UI Symbol font (`seguisym.ttf`) to `~/.wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts/` 3. Register font in registry under `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts` 4. Configure FontLink for fonts used by FL Studio (Open Sans, Roboto Condensed, Ubuntu Condensed, etc.) 5. Open FL Studio → Piano Roll → Tools → Generate Chord Progression 6. Observe chord names with accidentals (e.g., C#m, Bbm, F#m) ## Expected Behavior Chord names should display with proper music symbols: - C♯m (C sharp minor) - B♭m (B flat minor) - F♯m (F sharp minor) This works correctly on native Windows. ## Actual Behavior Chord names display with empty rectangles (tofu boxes) instead of ♯ and ♭ symbols: - C□m - G□m - F□m ## Analysis FL Studio uses DirectWrite for text rendering (confirmed via `WINEDEBUG=+dwrite`). The application uses condensed fonts (Open Sans Condensed, Roboto Condensed, Ubuntu Condensed) that do not contain the Unicode music symbols (U+266D, U+266E, U+266F). Under Windows, DirectWrite's font fallback mechanism (FontLink) automatically substitutes missing glyphs from Segoe UI Symbol. I think this is a problem with Rosetta 2 that can't be resolved except via emulating a 16-bit Intel CPU as Rosetta 2 lacks the needed 16-bit call emulation. This is... tiny. Barely readable. But if I change it to anything else, Wine windows become effectively unclickable on my secondary displays. I can drag them around by the title bar and close them, but clicking anywhere else in the window does not register. I can still interact with the program via keyboard, but given that one of the applications I need to run is a (lightweight) pixel graphics editor, this doesn't really help. I'm running Fedora 43 KDE Plasma on a ThinkPad X13 gen 3 AMD laptop. It's hooked up to a dock, which is connected to two additional external displays. My laptop's display is 1920x1200 (16:10), with 125% scaling applied. The external displays are 2560x1440 (16:9) with 100% scaling applied. They are placed above my internal display. None of the displays are clones. See attached screenshot. I have tried every combination of checkboxes in the Graphics panel (the "Allow the window manager to decorate the windows" and "Allow the window manager to control the windows" options); changing these only makes the title bar noninteractive as well as the window itself. I've tried forcing X11 instead of Wayland; no improvement. I've tried setting my primary display to 100% scaling to match my externals, but this doesn't help either. Neither does disabling the theme in the Desktop Integration tab. Nothing I've done seems to help. Running Wine-11.0 stable, just upgraded from 10.20-staging. Issue was present there too, though curiously it affected the configurator in 10.20, though it does not seem to affect the configurator in 11-stable. I will note that the underlying application seems to recognize that the cursor is hovering over it, and in the correct place; the editor displays the 16-bit index of the tile the cursor is currently hovered over below the left window. In trying to figure out exactly why it crashed, I ended up creating a standalone program that replicates the behavior: https://github.com/john-parton/egui-wine-test It's not as minimal as possible, but it's as minimal as I can get it with my knowledge and the tools I have at my disposal. You can cross-compile to windows from linux, and whether or not sRGB support is enabled is an environmental variable. I detailed exactly how to build it in the README, but at a high level, it uses rust and a library called egui. You build the program like this: cargo build --target x86_64-pc-windows-gnu You can then run FORCE_SRGB=0 RUST_BACKTRACE=full wine target/x86_64-pc-windows-gnu/debug/egui-wine-test.exe The program will work as expected.
