Yes, launching it manually doesn't function.
different ways tried :
$ regedit .... (ie via the wrapper)

Erik, please provide more information about your environment - which version of
Wine did you install, your OS/distribution. Without this information we won't be

You mean Wine regedit gives "File Not Found" when you call it manually with full
file name?
If yes, this could be a problem with paths processing. Could you narrow the
problem down to a small test case which opens the file and shows success/failure
of the operation? Does it work if you hardcode the path in the test case?
One more possibility - regedit incorrectly parses the command line. Try to
insert debugging statements in regedit before it tries to open the file to see
what it got.

Jingle, you can try to do regression testing and find a patch which broke
configure. Yes, it will take some time but you'll have good idea what happens.
http://www.winehq.org/docs/wine-devel/cvs-regression.shtml
It will take about 7 attempts for you to find a day of the patch between 200203
and 200206.
BTW, I use RH 7.1 with more-less recent patches. Is your system patched?

I need a trace with --debugmsg +ddraw so I can tell which flag is set in
DDBLT_FX when you run Baldur's Gate. (not the whole thing just a section that
has one or more of the DDBLTFX_... operations. For example:
DDBLTFX_ARITHSTRETCHY, DDBLTFX_MIRRORLEFTRIGHT, DDBLTFX_MIRRORUPDOWN etc. If
Baldur's Gate uses all the different types of operations that would be great but
I think it will use one or two.
