I've tried downgrading everything. I got rid of all the drm-trunk packages,
reinstalled XFree86 4.2, reinstalled Wine 20030813. I even recompiled my kernel
and modules using fresh 2.4.22 source. Nothing. No luck. This combination
used to run before I upgraded it all to get DRM working.

Regarding comment #4, I had just upgraded my X to 4.3 using some Debian packages
I found at a site dedicated to getting DRI working with i810. Unfortunately,
I've lost my bookmarks and history and I can't find the site again.
I did however come across:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2003/debian-x-200309/msg00117.html
which suggests xlibmesa may be to blame.

Bug appears to be fixed...?
Re-compiled using the 20030911 release (as opposed to the CVS version
from the same day) and WINE appears to be working again.
Could perhaps be due to us having corrupt CVS trees... I was having
'it is in the way' errors from cvs.

I think this must be a local issue, it works fine here. Are you sure the system
clock is set correctly? Also, if you're building over NFS, that can screw things up.

Well again me. I verified the mails this bugtracker sents to me.
Guess what ? It filters OUT the special keys i posted up here,
however they seem to be right visible on this site. Anyway,
when You open the keyboard.c with the good old vi, the error is
still the case i defined.
So i suggest additionaly to convert ALL keyboard codes in
keyboard.c to HEX. So the key "²³" I mention before should be
"\xb2\xb3" instead. The euro should be "eE\xa4" but as said
all codes should be in HEX to avoid errors like this.

Oeps I forgot to mention, the euro key for all European countries is : "eE€"
It has to be defined either in some releases of wine.

Further notes:
I've now built several versions of wine from source. Some older versions don't
seem to build for me and I also had weirdness trying to build transmitten's
wineX cvs, but all the recent wine versions I tried including 20030911 exhibit
the same problem. On the face of it this looks like an unterminated string being
passed to strlen. Perhaps it really is a bug in the program, but again the bug
doesn't turn up under win98, nor does it show up under crossover office.
Benjamin.

Summary: Quicken Deluxe '99 edition crashes on startup
Product: Wine
Version: 20030813

Severity: blocker

G'day,
I have the australian version of Quicken Deluxe '99 (also known as Qucken 8.0)
personal edition. My Linux distribution is Debian and I run packages from the
unstable branch including libc6 2.3.2. I am using an installed windows 98se
system to provide libraries, and quicken works under this operating system.
Changing to use a completely native wine setup the same problems occur. Quicken
fails during during the file-opening stages of startup, apparently while trying
to fill out the tabs it uses to keep track of different windows (eg register,
forecast, snapshot). I've tested against debian packages for 200330813 and
20030618, and both have had the same problem. I've downloaded a trial version of
crossover office for comparision, and it works well with no obvious problems.
I'm currently in the process of dragging down and building sources for further
comparison purposes.
Winedbg shows the following at crash-time:

Hi,
I also have this problem, and have attached an 'strace' of what's
happening in the hope that it will be useful.
I have today's (20030911) CVS although I compiled using an older version
of include/winbase.h (the latest one won't compile). I am using kernel
2.6.0-test5 on a Debian GNU/Linux unstable system. I use glibc 2.3.2.
The problem occurs regardless of whether or not WINE is configured
(either in ~/.wine or /etc/wine).
I should mention that this bug did *not* appear directly after upgrading
from an earlier CVS build to 20030911. I first noticed the bug soon
after I upgraded my kernel, my nVidia display driver and large number of
new unstable Debian packages.

Well, I entered the password correctly. This is on FreeBSD 4.8.
I'm going to grab a rather older source tarball and try again.

Lazy initialization of x11drv would be very convinient.
It would probably be enough just to have an extra
option to disable all of the extra characters with
ttydrv, such as the changing screens and adding
character 0x0d.
I also found that setting the driver to none causes one
of the socket using console programs to freeze with
using 100% CPU. I don't know if that is related to anything,
since I am not very familiar with wine yet.
Also, I am not exactly sure how to use wcmd or wineconsole.
I tried running it and all it did was set the title of
the xterm to whatever I typed. wcmd gave me a DOS-style
prompt, but was not able to run anything. cls didn't even work.
Only dir seemed to work. I typed the name of a program
in wcmd and dir > log, but the log file created was 0 length,
suggesting that the program was not run at all.
It would be nice to have it "just work" without having
to change the drivers depending on what program I want
to run at a given time, but I realize that might not
be practical in terms of implementing it. An extra
option for ttydrv not to have extra characters should
be enough.

How do you use wineconsole of wcmd? What do you set the GraphicsDriver to in
that case? Even if that works, it's not at all obvious, it should be documented
someplace. In fact, the better fix would be to _lazily_ initialize the x11drv
so apps that don't need graphical stuff don't even try to load it.

Avisynth (http://www.avisynth.org/) won't work with wine.
It won't work with VirtualDub. And it won't work on its own.
In particular attached is a trival test case. To reproduce the bug
Install AVISynth
Unpack attached zipfile
wine a.exe test.avs
As is test.avs works for me. Now uncomment one of the lines in test.avs. Then
it will crash.
The executable is (cross) compiled with gcc with debugging enabled.
My eventual goal is to get avisynth working smoothly in linux with a little help
form winelib so that it can be used as a filter for programs like mplayer and
the like. But first I need to get avisynth working!!
PS: I am the author of the AVISynth C interface that my executable uses to
interface with the C++ AVISynth API.

Summary: make depend fails
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: voiceoftheunderground(a)hotmail.com
I downloaded the latest CVS on September 8th. Configure runs fine, however, when
I "make depend" I get the following output:
"Makefile is older than configure, please rerun ./configure
make: *** [Makefile] Error 1"
In the file Makefile, under the comment # Rules for Makefile there is the
following function:
"Makefile: Makefile.in $(TOPSRCDIR)/configure
@echo Makefile is older than $?, please rerun $(TOPSRCDIR)/configure
@exit 1"
I get the same error when ./tools/wineinstall hits the make depend stage too.
And the only thing I edited in wineinstall was commenting out the root check so
I could install it as root since my normal users don't have gcc access.
The files Make.rules and Make.rules.in both have the same line in them as well.
So I downloaded the stable source from the ftp to tide me over until this issue
is fixed. I'll keep the CVS tree on my comp just in case there is anything else
you want me to test with my system. Just let me know if there is anything I can
do to help you with this issue, I'm not an advanced coder, but I'm not ignorant
either :)

Solved !
Problem was in TreeView control (dll/comctl32/treeview.c) all the time.
TreeView was not handling WM_CREATE properly - it did not forward CREATESTRUCT
(in lParam) to TREEVIEW_Create function and that function was setting
hwndNotify window to GetParent(hwnd) instead window handle given in
CREATESTRUCT.
I fixed this for TreeView control (patch sent to wine-patches) but same problem
can be expected for other controls which use WS_POPUP style and then set notify
window handler to GetParent(hwnd)

What happens with --dll comctl32=n and owner set to
WIN_GetFullHandle(cs->hwndParent)?
I would think the same because comctl32=n sets it to use native, so it wouldnt
use any of our code.. I think the relevant part is just the fact that
getancestor is causing it to do one thing that doesnt work the way it should
while win_getfullhandle is causing it to do another thing that doesnt quite
work the way it should either..

I have a number of Windows commandline programs that I use regularly.
I often find it necessary to use them over SSH. Since they
are not graphical, I do not need x11drv. ttydrv inserts a bunch
of extra characters, which is annoying, prevents the output from
being seen, and causes it to be mis-formatted. (One of the
utilities is a simple stdin -> stdout, which means that I
need to remove those characters in an additional step.)
For the moment, I am using
"GraphicsDriver" = "none"
and just removing the top line, which is working okay.
It would be very handy if none was an actual driver that worked,
was documented, and did not have the error line.
The proposed code changes would be very helpful.

does many other things than just displaying the current directory in a window.
If you really want that, better use winefile.

I'm trying to run a particular program under wine. The installer failed, and I cheated by
copying my install from one machine which dual boots to a second. Both machines use
mandrake 9.1 and the same version of wine.
On machine one, i can use some specific dlls which allow opening .ecw files. On
machine two I am unsuccessful. I have tried various overrides on these dlls and can't
get the program (OziExplorer) to use the ecw files.
the dlls are NCScnet.dll NCSEcw.dll NCSUtil.dll

Personally, I think wine is great and have used it to keep from having to reboot into
windows.
I have a full installation of Win98SE on this machine w/ most of the latest patches.
It is also my development machine and I used to be able to run Sybase Power Designer
on it, and I would hate to have to go back to windows just to use my tools.
Thanks.

In my /dev directory dsp points to dsp0

I've an usb to serial adapter based on pl2303 and a conexant Winmodem. Both devices works from
linux using /dev/ttyUSB0 for the first and /dev/ttySHSF0 for the second.
I thried them with minicom.
Under wine, I've tried to assign
"Com1" = "/dev/ttyS0"
"Com2" = "/dev/ttyUSB0"
"Com3" = "/dev/ttySHSF0"
All devices are rw permission for the wine user.
I tried to load Hyperterm from wine with all required dlls.
I started wine with "wine --debugmsg +trace,+comm,+file ./path_to_hyperterm.exe
When I try to access com1 I get a file error since I haven't no attached device.
When I try to access to com2 or com3 I get an error from hyperterm.exe. The error isn't trapped
from debugmsg. It seems that wine can't use virtual linux serial devices.
Any suggestion?
Best Regards, Eddi

Summary: TreeView sending message to wrong window
Product: Wine
Version: 20030618
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: igorg(a)cadlink.com
Treeview in application is sending WM_NOTIFY on double click (NM_DBLCLK) to the
wrong window handle. With current code for CreateWindowEx in windows/win.c
owner is set to "GetAncestor( cs->hwndParent, GA_ROOT )" and WM_NOTIFY goes to
wrong window. If I change code so that owner is "WIN_GetFullHandle(cs-
>hwndParent)" then there is problem with Z ordering (keeping popup window on
top) but WM_NOTIFY goes to Cview as it should.
However if I use --dll comctl32=n and owner is set to "GetAncestor( cs-
>hwndParent, GA_ROOT )" everything works OK - popup is on top and CView
receives WM_NOTIFY from it.
