Can you generate a trace:
WINEDEBUG=+wave winecfg
and look for any lines with ARTS_ and post them here?

Hmm. I'm using 0.9.3 as well, and notepad doesn't open for me.
Must be something different in our environments.

Summary: Spews messages on stdout when playing Crusader Kings
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-ddraw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: vincent.lonngren.759(a)student.lu.se
The game Crusader Kings is very playable with wine 0.9. However, there is a
constant flood of messages like this on stderr:
err:ddraw:Main_DirectDrawSurface_GetSurfaceDesc Impossible/Strange struct size 0.
Eventually this will make the log so large it fills up the entire partition on
my system. I work around it by symlinking the log to /dev/null, which works
nicely, but is not very pretty.
Since everything seems to be working, the warning may be redundant. At least it
should probably not be issued more than once unless some special debug mode is on.
This problem seems to be present in other Paradox games like Europa Universalis
2, as well as a few other applications.

Except that it has a few extra patches. Grumble. Time to check the
local patches, I guess.

installing wine under root login. I`ve got such error during a build in
'/wine-0.9.4/server' directory:
[quote begin]
gcc -c -I. -I. -I../include -I../include -D__WINESRC__ -Wall -pipe

Apologies, that was with a different wine instance.
The actual instance I've been running Picasa with is "Wine 0.9.3"
