This bug is invalid, so I am closing. To confirm a bug when more than 1 person
is experiencing the problem (and bugzilla wont let you) just vote for the bug
(right above the box where you enter comments. That will confirm the bug by
popular vote and change the status to new. I will connect that bug to the games
bug (1434), but since I cannot test the problem, I can't just go ahead and
confirm it.. Ivan, if you are experiencing the problem mentioned in his bug,
please vote for it, and someone will take a look at it.

I expect this is because X11 windows are only used for toplevels now. If so then
it was a known and expected regression. Try asking on wine-devel about it.
If it's because of the WM rewrite then it won't be easy to fix. New X server
features will be needed.

...and of course right after I wrote that it started working on the next try.
In process of downloading Half Life 2 (I gave up on installing from disk)...

I can confirm the same bug with wine CVS. Please change status.
For me, ALT-TAB does not help - the black screen will not go away until I manage
to start a game blindly.
I see a lot of those:
fixme:ddraw:Main_DirectDraw_WaitForVerticalBlank
(0x402533a8)->(flags=0x00000001,handle=(nil))

Steam does not work for me as of today on Wine CVS. It connects to my account,
and gets to the point where it says "Steam Update News", and then dies:

Tobias:
You're right, the clipping does appear to be correct and simply the OpenGL
background color is overriding the menubar in Weatherscope as well. Weird.
Dustin:
Well, I'm not too familiar with CVS, but I'm a quick learner. However, Duane
Clark mentioned on wine-users that he didn't think regression testing would be
all that useful given the major wine X11 changes that took place. Do you disagree?
