I'll try later on the other distro. OOo 1.1.5's installer runs fine, but when I try to run the app under this morning's CVS, I get a crash. Happily, the OOo crash reporter catches it and reports it to Sun (they're probably very confused right now :-). It claimed the crash was in ntdll. To find out more, I ran it under winedbg, where it crashed very quickly on startup. For me MPLAB 7.30b runs really fine under wine 0.96 on my Suse 9.2 system. Even the Picstart Plus and Promate II Hardware fully work for me. I can read write verify 16F72 and 16F873A Pics for example. The sim works completely too. What i found is that ALL .dll MUST be registered manually. Otherwise screen freezes.
