You can't mix and match pieces of OLE. You either use all native or all builtin.
(I'm talking about ole32.dll, oleaut32.dll and rpcrt4.dll)

Are you running as ROOT???
DO NOT do that!!!
Make yourself a regular user and do that the normal way.

Yep, seems to have been a kernel issue with 2.6.15-17-k7 (Ubuntu) -
2.6.15-18-k7 works now again.
Some days ago, there was another kernel problem which caused problems not to
be able to start.. I should have thought of it.
Sorry and thanks for the hint/solution.

This was version 1.4, I heard there is a newer version so I'll grab the patch
now and try again.

Hi, exactly what version of the game is this? I tried two (demo-versions) from
http://www.vgpro.com/file/9864_swat3ee_demo_us.exe.html and Swat3 game of the
year edition and they both run quite well (allthough slow) Is there a demo
available for the version you try to run? Or could you try if the above
mentioned demo's fail for you as well?

The "GetInstallDriver, Can not find InstallDriver in ROT table"
is described at many places, e.g.
http://www.appdeploy.com/faq/detail.asp?id=76
as meaning "DCOM can't be started".
Geez, is DCOM really required just to run an installer?
